Well, look at Genetic data.
Turks and Greeks are almost the same are almost the same genetically, yet Greeks are white and Turks aren't because one is Christian and one is Muslim. We talk about a ethnic Germans and Frenchmen despite their being large genetic differences between different parts of both countries.
There may be reality scientific to both race and ethnicity, but that reality sure isn't put to use whenever when we try to define it. We go by culture and religion.
