Did you guys ever read Siddhartha? Spoilers for it ahead The book is about a man who's not the Buddha who achieves spiritual enlightenment separately from the path of the Buddha. When he speaks to the Buddha at one point and explains why he chooses not to follow him, the Buddha basically tells him that differences in opinion don't really mean that much. At the end, he more or less becomes enlightened, but his beliefs are different from that of the buddhas. When his buddhist friend points that out, he repeats thr same thing the Buddha said to him about getting lost in opinions and words.

I feel like the Buddha and Jesus would see each other this way. They were both observably enlightened, and wanted to help the rest of the world achieve the same state through teaching and example. They would understand that people from different eras and parts of the world would conceptualize their journey and teachings in different ways but that is of little importance ultimately.
