A funny bald guy. The way he explained everything was great and made you genuinely interested in what you were learning. He was always making jokes too (to make the retards pay attention). I even thought of becoming a history teacher because of him but then I became a literal autist who cant into public speaking. He taught us for a few months and then left the school. Lots of rumors started circulating about him (I went to an all-girls school, you can imagine what those rumors said) which I totally believe kek.

I can see how that would happen tBh.

I was lucky that my history teachers were cool af. they do this trip every year in the summer where they take like 9 students out west (colorado/montana/etc) to some national parks to hike and learn about the areas and stuff. I went twice, my first year we went to Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park, the second year we went to Glacier. So I was already pretty good "friends" with the teachers before I even had them, so we got along well, and they did a lot in class to make it engaging.

so yeah, I can see how it could turn you off to history, but ig I just got extremely lucky by having some really cool history teachers

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

When I finished it I was crazy for more stories in a similar style and tone, and asked 4chan for recommendations. I was told Honor Harrington, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and real history. I didn't care much for the last option, but then I started reading Norwich's The Popes, a subject that I knew practically nothing about except some stories about gay popes and popes that died having sex, and I wanted to ser just how true that really was, which led to discover that I didn't actually know anything at all, everything I thought about history was complete BS and the past was nothing like I imagined, which got me reading more and more on various subjects.

My dad, he had a bachelors in history in Harvard, (even though he was in finance) and frequently told me stories about History (usually 20th century wars) in a very exaggerated and comedic way which basically triggered my Aspergers to have an obsessive craving for all things historical all the way into adulthood, currently working on my Masters in World History and planning on getting a PHD and becoming a Professor. Better than getting obsessed with Sonic. It also didn't hurt that my mother gave me Percy Jackson books instead of Harry Potter books which sparked an interest in Greek myth as well.

The first thing I was obsessed with were dinosaurs. I used to memorize the names and recite them because I thought they sounded awesome, read every book about dinosaurs in the public library when I was real little. After that I sort of segued into history & geography which really go hand in hand. Had a 'illustrated history of the world' book I used to thumb through. Played AoE, Civilization & Rome: Total War too. Went as Hannibal Barca to a "living museum" presentation in middle school when everyone else was doing Lincoln, Florence Nightengale, Washington, Johnny Cash, Davy Crockett etc...Nobody knew who I was.

I also had a great Junior year highschool history teacher. He was a real old guy. So old that he walked with two canes because he had Polio as a child. He lectured like a college professor when other teachers did worksheets and reading out of the textbook. He knew everything by heart his lectures often went off on tangents as he got lost in talking about people places and things or answering questions. He radiated his passion for history and that was inspiring.

While I'm sure there were a bunch of different little things that were brewing underneath the surface that would have eventually lead me to my love of history. I've always pinpointed the exact moment it happened to when I found my brother's Axis and Allies board game in 5th grade:

>Bored one day on Christmas break
>Go downstairs and see my brother left some unopened WW2 board game he got as a gift on the kitchen counter
>Open up out of curiosity
>Filled with all kinds of tiny little army pieces that nerdy little 11yr old me would love playing with
>Find giant rule book filled with all kinds of extra information on WW2, what the pieces were supposed to be for each country, along with special optional rules in the back to mix the game up that all had real historical explanations for what they were (e.g. German fighter planes could move an extra territory because jet engines or something.)
>End up devouring almost every single book on WW2 I could get my hands on over the next few years
>Fall in love with learning history in general at that point
>Decided right around then that I'd really like to teach history some day

Just finished up my first year teaching incidentally.

My friend was Sinoboo and I was a Weeaboo. We spend the day fighting and telling each others stories from WWII. I remember him telling me of this Chinaman who fought hand on hand with Japanese men in fighting demonstrations to win bags of rice. Loved that story, but forgot the name of the individual, he was a kung-fu master of some shit before the war.

I met my (only) friend in highschool while having dinner, he started chatting because I had a copy of the Silmarillion with me and he started talking about it. Casually, we were the only guys interested in history and we were both Catholics.

I had always really liked a lot of ancient and classical history (largely Greeks, Romans and Egyptians) from a very early age because I'd read picture books about them and I'd get absolutely enthralled, also Horrible Histories once I was about 6 which probably had a massive influence on me actively going out of my way to find out new things about history. Also, my dad (despite being a mathematician working in finance) was based as fuck and read me bits of Gibbon's Decline and Fall, explaining what the tricky words meant, when I was about 7. He also encouraged me to start reading proper history books, and he'd make a point of picking out some which were at my reading level. Also, I got Rome: Total War around the same time, started watching a ton of WW2 movies and went out of my way to have discussions with my teachers about the history topics they were teaching.

Horrible Histories at first, then I played Pharaoh and Zeus: Master of Olympus (GOAT).
And finally CoD2 got me interested in both WWs.

My dad's a huge fucking nerd who gave me his literally hundreds of airfix plastic soldiers and was very interested in war history, got a book series about the three year war and the war of 1864 for bed time stories and took me to the place where the decisive battle of 1864 was fought since he grew up in the area and my granddad still lived there. Supposedly my great great or great grea great granddad used the retreat from Als to pick up chicks, namely my corresponding amount of greats grandma.

My childhood was fucking based.

movies came out when I was in grade 3, read about Tolkien and how he studied Anglo-Saxons and all that shit and so pretty much any history project I did I tried to do on them.
Also things like Horrible Histories and Wishbone. My favourite Wishbone book and episode was The Odyssey and so I got an early interest and understanding of Greek myth and legends.

Video games. I would play the WW2 shooters like CoD WaW and then i wanted to go learn more about ww2. Eventually I played HoI, Total war, Victoria 2, and EU4. They made me want to learn even more and fill in the gaps of what I knew. I started by watching a lot of documentaries and videos online. Eventually I had seen them all on YouTube and started reading books.

I also used to watch a lot of history channel documentaries as a kid, back when they showed actually documentaries.

Funny story. He said that in the 50's in the Philippines, Oral Sex was like a huge taboo (think, Corpophilia today...or ever really). For both sexes. I mean, we're a Catholic country, but today, bj/cunny is no biggie, but our forebears were more Catholic. He said -and I don't know if this is a big fish story- that he became notorious and popular with his then GF and her circle of friends because he's the only man they knew that licked da pussy. Her friends were so curious that my grandad even got offers from some of them (which he never honored, upstanding lad that he was.).

My interest for WW2 probably comes from them, I try to remember something else but this show is probably the first thing in a historic setting that I watched. Also Ridley Scott films and Total War games. Shogun2 got me interested in Nip history and back then I wasn't even a weeb and the only film I saw was Last Samurai. Now I watch tons of animu and have loads of Kurosawa films. Feels like I got into Nip stuff the totally opposite way.
>>
>>1536704
Because the author has massive bias and tries to rewrite the entirety of American History (and do mean every historical event worth noting) as a class struggle.

Needless to say, this is not a very honest depiction of history.

Dude that's great, im about to go to college to for that major, any tips?

For me it started with Dinosaurs, I was always really interested in them and wanted to be a paleontologist, but as I grew up I learned more and more about things that disappeared without a trace like whole civilizations and so I got really into ancient histories and started to learn more about those before moving on to all kinds of histories and now I'm going to college to teach High school world history until i can save up enough to go back for a pHD and teach college as a professor. I want to do some sort of eastern history whether it be in Asia or the Middle East, and I also want to learn the language of that country and go there when I write my research papers.

I always like it, but after I started using knowledge of it to troll other smart people as a kid I got really interested. My favorite thing to do was knowledgably argue as a contrarian with adults that knew less than me. I was always the kid that would write essays in defence of a North Korean-style command economy in macroeconomics classes and defend the Ottomans or the Soviets' post-WW2 meddlings in Europe.

For your history major its all going to be writing. If you can't write essays and short research papers well you are screwed. Learn how to easily find the books and journals necessary for your research and then figure out how to seamlessly work those points into your papers. Anyone who's made it through high school should know how to easily spit out a thesis-driven essay once they've done their research so I doubt it'll be too difficult.

For the education major the only advice I can really give you is to always keep up with whatever writing or documentation your Edu course is forcing you to do that semester, you don't want to be sitting there on finals week having to BS your way through an entire semesters worth of lesson plans or field work observations. Education courses are jokes and until you get to the ones that teach methods you're going to be bored out of your mind.
