Was Europe really better off during the Renaissance than in the Middle Ages? It seems to me that many things regressed in the Renaissance, especially since that was when many of the Dark Ages myths were started.
The art was pretty cool though.
Renaissance was the beginning of banking and merchant-oligarchic materialistic society. The exterior explendor of its art is to make up for the internal (spiritual) vacuity which was imperceptible a first but reached a climax in our contemporary society. Evola said wherever purely materialistic and merchantile values are prevalent, the Jew will have his way. And we're seeing the results thereof.
I do love some Renaissance music though.

You do see some bollocks on this board.
The Renaissance didn't occur outside Italy and the Low Countries (they weren't called that at the time but you understand), so for most of Europe, 1300-1550 was just an extension of the Middle Ages with some bonus plagues nation-building.

Definately better off than during the Crisis of the Late Middle Ages, i.e. 14th-15th century.
Definately worse off than during the 13th century, which was likely the most prosperous century before the Enlightenment Era.
