>For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance, he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.” - Robert Jastrow

What even is the point of theology, obviously religion isn't real so no matter how much you build it up none of it matters.

What is the material/mathematical reduction of language and how can you prove you're understanding these words?
How can you prove understanding, for that matter?

>What is the material/mathematical reduction of language
Something that most scientists will happily admit will never be complete or perfect, unlike theologians
>how can you prove you're understanding these words?
>How can you prove understanding, for that matter?
Consciousness is an unknown as of now, that doesn't allow you to make shit up and declare it true

>Something that most scientists will happily admit will never be
Just stop there.
>as of now
I hope the irony is not lost on you that this a faith-based statement.
>that doesn't allow you to
And that this is a dogmatic one.

Well, you're somewhat right, this is something called an assumption. I indeed assume that knowledge is fallible and always will be. On the one hand, I can't guarantee that this forever remain true. On the other hand, the Titanic being deemed unsinkable, the Chernobyl plant and the Fukushima plant both being declared completely safe, and World War 1 being declared over in a few months in 1914 tell me that this is a very safe assumption
