In civilized countries where people have a decent life, there's almost always zero resistance unless the enemy behaves very badly.
In that regard, it's astonishing that France resisted so much (compared to other civilized countries).
Now in poor shitholes like Poland, Yugoslavia and all, you'll indeed face much greater resistance
Add to that the cruelty the nazis showed there and it's no surprise the resistance was big

That's why when I see Americans comparing an hypthetical guerrilla situation again the gubmint in their homeland to Vietnam or Iraq, it always make me laugh

Tanks were objectively better one on one it was their doctrine that was complete shit and backwards. Their design limitations were magnified exponentially as the scales grew to the point that the technically inferior German panzers were able to completely out maneuver french tank units still holding on to their infantry.

They buckled like bitches, had a good part of their government welcome the Nazis, and would later be saved by people better than them. Compared to their allies other than the US they suffered the least and put up the least amount of resistance for their size.

I don't blame the brits for "leaving them" because after seeing your ally buckle so easily its better to retreat to a more defensible point.

The only thing France did was make other people look better. China got their capital taken, were facing an opponent technologically/militarily superior to them, were fighting a civil war, and suffered several horrific loses yet still fought on. Russia made serious and costly blunders, got their shit kicked in so hard they had to move a bulk of their factories east, and appeared to be on the brink many times yet still held on. I don't quite agree with the statement Roberts made in Stalin's Wars (“To make so many mistakes and to rise from the depths of such defeat to go on to win the greatest military victory in history was a triumph beyond compare”) but it was till pretty impressive stuff. Even the greek resistance who were suffering from a famine at the time and were in a much worst position than France put up a more respectable fight.
