If Europe had stuck with its various brands of Aryan paganism till the modern day, what would have been the result of our linguistic reconstruction and discovery of the original Indo-European religion? Would everyone have to drop their specific Germanic/Celtic/Hellenic/Persian and embrace the older "truer" religion?
Can we determine what religion is the most correct by discovering whichever is the oldest?

There already exists a great aryan religion for you.
Mythology =/ religion

Thunor and Woden were genuine venerated dieties. I heard that pre-Christian religions took a more relaxed approach, but it wasn't outright mythology to them.

This. Thread over. It's literally the "truer older religion" OP is asking for.
>Europe
>Aryan Paganism

But Hinduism isn't as it was in the PIE days.

Great meme my man. Great meme. But the fact is that Hinduism is the only surviving "aryan religion" should be enough for you to convert, right?

Early middle age Germanic paganism was probably not the same thing as it was in PIE days either.

>not knowing 'Aryan' was synonymous with 'Indo European' before Nazi reactionism

I doubt anyone would care enough. Also reconstructing a religion is a lot less straightforward than reconstructing a language and might not even be possible.

not Aryan

but as they came to see that their religion was not consistent throughout time and was in fact of the same origin as their neighbor's, would they feel the need to drop their own? search for the original harder? think that their neighbors were equally correct as their own?

they wouldnt care, romans realised what youre saying and didnt seem to have a problem with it
The more probable result is that they would have dropped their specific brand of paganism for secular humanism faster.

I think I depends on the reality of the situation Europe was in. The masses only adhere to whatever religion is either forced upon them or makes sense in the certain time period. Pagans either had to organize or be destroyed, that was their biggest weakness against organised monotheistic religions
