The majority of nations affected by the Cold War were worse off then when they started. Notably, most of Eastern Europe is still set back, compared to Western Europe in terms of capability. The Middle East is war torn from trained guerrillas, which only worsened the outcomes of the civil wars and internal struggles. Asia has been put under the hold of communism, causing many Eastern Asians to leave. Cuba is impoverished, like most present communist states that were set up back in the 1960's and 1950's. Overall, nothing has changed for the better or improved in the slightest - give or take America was granted more power by her allies, but is now suffering massive economic collapses because of the numerous programs set up during the Cold War and wasted money on other numerous wars that were bi-products of the Cold War.

Same can be stated for Afghanistan and the efforts for the US to try and prevent the Soviets from capturing Afghanistan, which desperately turned against them and funded several civil wars. So, actions taken by the US and Russia only worsened most campaigns, rather than anything else.

The French Revolution desu.

For all of the bombastic talk about freedom and equality the ultimate result of that revolution and the ensuing wars was the strengthening of state power and the laying of the groundwork for future totalitarian dictatorships and government-sanctioned mass murder.

I'm not a fan of monarchy but I'm not sure much improved really.

Given that the majority of the revolution revolved around killing the same people who provided work, only to see a massive up rise in socialist movements which willed to eradicate democratic elections anyway, aye. It could easily be said it was all for nothing.
