I've read one of them (Bulgaria) and I thought it was pretty good. Broad overview, of course, but gave you a feel for the general history with enough specifics so that it wasn't as shallow as a Wikipedia article. Definitely biased towards the present in terms of amount of content, but what comprehensive history isn't?
That said, for smaller states like Bulgaria, this kind of book is probably okay. Not sure if it would be good for a country like Spain.
I've not read so much as the back cover of one but I'm feeling particularly opinionated today.
