I'll start with the White Ship Disaster.
Basically, a gathering of nobles, including Henry I's sole heir, got on this really nice ship and got really really drunk. They embarked at night and almost immediately hit a rock off the shore and all but two drowned. This event led to a succession crisis for the English.
