What technology, science, or ideas did they have that were superior to old world societies?
>>
>>1484036
Sadly little of their ideas (theological, mathematical, philosophical) have survived.

Their crops were superior, judging on the books 1491 and 1493. Indians were better fet.

From reading "Aztec philosophy: the world in motion" I learned that they didn't do stupid Descartes faggotry but had some serious issues with the world (the Aztecs). They believed they were in the last age of humans and had to sacrifice honorouble enemy warriors to keep the teotl (energy), with it the universe, going.

Incas had a nice economy system. Every region produced something else and the surplus was redistributed. Some socialists like it.

they crops they domesticated were important for old world societies.

Just think of how many millions of Irishmen died because the potato was their main food.

And I remember reading that Spanish population didnt begin to recover until they begun to grow corn.

potatos, tomatoes, corn, cacao, vanilla, beans, pumpkins and hot peppers are all from the Americas.
and they are the result of selection in agriculture for thousands of years.

Unlike Europe, Agriculture in the Americas is a local creation, not something that was spread by farmers from the middle east.

Misunderstood geniuses who were very perceptive about nature.

One may think that the Aztec fear of star-demons that could devour the Sun was exaggerated, but the fact that present-day astronomers failed to foresee an impact as massive as the Earth on Jupiter is somewhat worrysome.

They were more hygienic and cleaner than the europeans of their time. I remember reading about this friar right after the conquest that was complaining that the natives bathed too much and somehow it was a sin like vanity and urged spanish authorities to take action. ill look up the name.

Thats just culture, nothing to do with technology. For example soap existed in the old world but not in the new

Three points, mainly relevant to the Inca.

1. Much of their engineering was focused on tension, not compression. They were able to create very strong ropes from natural fibers, and use them to build suspension bridges unparalleled in the Old World up until that point.

2. Their seismic engineering was phenomenal. Despite being in an earthquake prone region, many Inca ruins stand to this day, whereas many modern structures collapse. Granted, these modern structures are generally hastily built and not up to code, but the point remains.

3. They valued ductility and malleability in metals (properties exhibited to a high degree in precious metals), instead of hardness. They developed metallurgy accordingly, and were quite talented gold and silver smiths, to a point where the Europeans were awed but what the Incas could do with these metals.

Additionally, they have a rich tradition of therapeutically using ayahuasca and psilocybin mushrooms for mental healing. These are incredibly powerful and transformative substances unparalleled by anything the Old World had up to that point, even rivaling the most powerful of synthetic drugs today.

Perfect calendars
Mayas discovered the 0 centuries before europe

Socially/politically there were interesting things see the Iroquois Confederacy.

newborns in the Incan empire received a portion of land (topu) to work on, or rent. After dead the land went back to the state to be given to the next baby. Pretty based if you ask me.

>They valued ductility and malleability in metals (properties exhibited to a high degree in precious metals), instead of hardness
plz no "they just chose not to" meme, if they had access to bronze they would have used it in some applications where hardness is overwhelmingly more important, the other 2 are true though
>>
>>1485918
Not necessarily that they deliberately chose not too, as if it wasn't in their R&D budget. Merely that the need had not made itself particularly apparent.

Incas made extensive use of stone where hardness was required, notably obsidian, which is incredibly sharp and hard.

Obviously, metal is a better material for most applications, but they made do with what they had.

That is some next-level entropy spook.

These guys are fascinating

Dude they were like super advanced n'shit
they had all the technology but they were like super peaceful and dindu nuffin to nobudy until the evil european barbarians with their guns and germs and steel came and ooga booga'd their peacefull advanced utopia then destroyed all possible evidence that it ever existed to keep the black man down (original Aztec were black btw)

the Spaniards also translated the bulk of Aztec knowledge and are the reason why so much of it has existed compared to smaller nations like the Zapotec
