The memesters are right in saying we are part of a "paradigm shift". We can genetically modify ourselves now, if not industrial civilization won't simply go away because some processes we have discovered are simply too efficient, even post-apocalyptic warlords can make use of them. Whatever happens, things will change rapidly and what we have now is just a briefly passing thing. We will likely create something that replaces us.

I am guessing by ~1000 years shit will have gone down, we will see the beginnings in the next 100 years as various technologies come to fruition and environmental/resource problems take their toll on the stability of our society.
