Does anyone else here want to become a polymath?

Technically you could master a lot of things via the internet.

>become
Anon, I already am.
>>1453415
Am sorta doing that. Probability of it ever becoming something fruitful is questionable.
Hope to write a book once bringing it all together.
"polymaths" only existed in a time where all of humanity's knowledge amounted to 200 books. As such they are a meaningless label today. Even to call yourself a historian or scientist is silly considering how much specialization is required to be considered reputable.

Why would anyone want to become a polymath? It's tons of work.

What about being a generalist?
You could become knowledgeable on the whole instead of the details.

Although there's nothing stopping you from becoming knowledgeable and learning various skills, chances are you'll never going to put them to use unless you get a degree in something
jack of all trades, master of none

You become someone with a lot of opinions that are not relevant in modern academia.

Modern academia is a circlejerk and not open for new opinions. I prefer to be a free thinker.
>>1453610
Sort of like yourself (but without the knowledge)?
>>1453610
Also, not interested in academia. Let the others do the hard work (publish and perish), I'll find a way to make my knowledge practicable.

This.
Newton wrote his Principia alone but a modern academic paper often has dozens of contributors.
