1) Lindybeige, although I've heard and read that he sucks when it comes to weapons
.
2) The Great War, although Indy sometimes tries too much to be spectacular..

3) Sargon of Akkad's secondary channels, although he's not an academic and he sometimes omits details or get his facts wrong.

4) Historybuffs, although his historical movie reviews tend to be biased.

5) TheCajunCutThroat, although he has a strong pro-french bias, his late videos are well-made, touching and informative. His francophone channel is amazing.
>>
>>1438040
lindybeige does have a lot of interesting points though, while perhaps not completely grasping the whole picture
>>

That just some /his/torians being triggered because he did not think that the german weaponry in world war 2 was superior to everything and anything ever built. Don't think anyone has complained about his videos on medieval weaponry though.

His reasoning is heavily based on anecdotes and larping and a lot of the stuff he says is just bullshit, like the "weapons have more stopping power when on a tripod" thing. When it comes to modern stuff he has no idea what he is talking about but still plays an expert on youtube. His historical stuff is interesting though, he should stick to that.

Biased in what aspect? Generally when he makes the case that Britain does something better than other countries (driving on the left or the English language being superior to Chinese etc) he makes decent arguments for that being the case. Britain has a history of doing things better than other countries, it does not make one biased to point that out.

What education do you require to give an opinion about a movie in a youtube video?

Majority of his videos are not accurate at all, but the gems of knowledge he drops through his videos are usually true and interesting, I think he is studying a history major? When he explains the background for some of his battles he has done a lot of research for simple video game related videos.

This combined with the fact that he calls himself a skeptic, but invited a unbiased idiot swede (Called an "En Arg Blatte Talar") who says the most absurd shit and this so called "Skeptic" just accepts everything and agrees without questioning.

Also when discussing Brexit with Thunderfoot (I don't follow Thunderfoot desu) most of his arguments were tinfoil hat level shit. He is quite simply an idiot.

Phd student, know rch for about 2 years.
He basically cherrypicks arguments, ignores scholars or sources that are against his view, or only give them a small leeway in order to appear fair and unbiased. He looks and pushes for connections that don't exist, for example cites one unrelated battle to justify another totally unrelated battle while giving no evidence, no source at all that two battle participants had any knowledge of one another at all. Basically he tries to fit his argument into evidence rather than the other way around. Thank the catholic god he worshpis that he is not an academic and has no credentials at all (the academic sources or guests choices are also not that good, he once cited a 1970 book while mentioning none of the preceding ones that refuted it, wish I could remember the name)

He has a small angry and religious following and shills for his books in peace, as long as he is not claiming to be a historain I'm okay with it.

Also it was funny to see when he got triggered, orthodox caused some trouble back then, and he literally had a massive breakdown at his assassins creed video comment section.

Weird fucking guy, reminds of of average /pol/his/torian who is a bit less lazy and a bit more bold in presenting himself.
>>
>>1445476

That isn't even close to accurate.

Even restricting battles to just papally-backed crusade campaigns (rather than all Catholic vs heathen/heretic battles), you're missing hundreds of widespread dots.

>>
>>1445533
by all means you are right, I should have said that I'm writing my thesis on greek view on crusades and I wasted enough of my time watching, taking notes, reading, and refuting RCH back in octochans /christian/ board. I once translated an ecclesiastical epistle that I couldn't find a translation, just for the sake of posting there. (being a grad student gives you a lot of time to bullshit around) Maybe you can find some of my posts in the archives.
I'm seriously tired, both literally as of now and in sense that I had enough of him, go check his videos yourself. I'm off to sleep. I'm sick of refuting or listening to him again even if I was going to stay here to shitpost. Its for religious right by a religious right winger. Its basically a circlejerk

But then again you should Deffinetly not trust me, I assume your oxbridge faggotry is more than enough to detect his trickery with regards to evidence. Go watch few of his videos, and do check what he omits, not what he cites.

>everyone who disagrees me is the same person

I have an argument though. RCH occasionally quotes an islamic source, and then boasts for quoting an islamic source. By quoting that source, the author basically says that its reliable and should be considered. He then stops quoting it, and quotes other, less reliable sources, which contradict it. Never again is this islamic source, which was considered good enough for the show, ever brought up as a counter weight to all the other lesser sources that are preferred instead.

Basically islamic sources are only good when its propaganda nonsense like making bow strong out of human leg sinew, which is of course stupid, since human sinew would make for terrible weak bow string, but the guy takes it as seriously as possible and makes it a point, then never bothers to repeat anything else said in that source which he liked enough to quote once, when it suited him.

Reminder: sources are only reliable when they agree with my fanatical views, and unreliable bullshit when they don't.

This is a great story, now where did he do this and where does he do this consistently?
>Basically islamic sources are only good when its propaganda nonsense
The only videos I've watched (only a handful of his older ones back maybe a year or two) just used them in conjunction with christian ones, I don't know what he does now. Again, post the videos which support your claim or bust
>anything else said in that source which he liked enough to quote once, when it suited him
Yes, when you're making a point or an argument you use a variety of quotes that suite your point. He's not an academic, he's a youtube "historian," this is hardly a valid criticism for a 5 minute youtube video. And you speak as if this is a specific incident, so please post the source that had extra information that he left out

And yes, I do know he's done this shit, but I've never seen it regularly enough to make a generalization for all his videos

I specialised in the study of the Late Roman Army during my history degree and I want to start up a channel to talk about it because people have this stereotype that the Late Roman Army was just a disorganised mob of Germans, but that really isn't the case!

But I'm worried that I don't have a nice enough voice and nobody would watch my videos.

They are backed, but you can also make a few opposing theories using the exact same sources that he does, because he cherry picks like a motherfucker.
He reads the source, so he clearly sees all the things that oppose his views, and he chooses to ignore them. He however treats the things that support his views as pure, unquestionable fact, and if you disagree - well just look at the sources, its all there!! Nevermind the other stuff thats also there.

So his conclusion is still backed.
>Nevermind the other stuff thats also there
Your argument is more air filled than a balloon.

I'm not going to bother replying anymore.
>>
>>1446803
Example:
A muslims source quoted saying that the vanquished were butchered alive to use their sinew as bow string. The same muslim source says the civilians in the city were treated nicely.
A christian source says the valiant defenders fought to the end, and died honorably. The muslim hordes then killed all civilians.
RCH's reading: The muslims butchered all the garrison to make bow strings out of them, and killed all civilians too.
Basically taking whatever fits his narrative from both sources, and ignoring what contradicts it.

I won't watch his shitty low quality videos again just to give you links and time stamps. If you had any interest in this discussion, you could do it yourself. You clearly are looking for a way out, and were only replying to be to have the last word. If you don't want to know better, I won't force feed you information. Good day.

>>1448571
>I see these shitposts whenever RCH comes up, but never any examples of what he said that was incorrect or evidence to back up the claim.

He attacks Extra Credits Crusades video with a point about how Europe was always concerned about reclaiming the Holy Land and how Pilgrimage had declined by using Charlemagne helping found a pilgrim's inn in Jerusalem, ignoring almost 300 years of silence on the desire to retake the Holy Land in any other Christian source up until the turn of the 12th century, and ignoring the rise and spread of pilgrim journals within that same timeframe attesting to the rise - not fall - of pilgrimage.
>>
>>1448571
Easy to say when examples get discussed every time but then they're suddenly forgotten the next time. It's like a bad infographic that keeps getting posted as bait no matter how many times it gets shat on and debunked.
>>
>>1448627
Except he points out there were just too much disorganization and civil wars in the early post-Roman era. As he puts it, Christians in Europe were aware of the bloody Islamic conquests but there was nothing that could be done about it. It's no coincidence that Crusades came about soon after the kingdom nation states did.
>>
>>1448756
Yeah, it's nice how he says this despite there being very powerful kingdoms like the Carolingian or Ottonian empires at the time. The point being there exist some very obvious counter arguments to his suppositions, especially those that aren't backed by any notable historian, and that he tends to dismiss them if he even mentions their existence at all with as little evidence as he uses for these suppositions.

It's just bait and switch. He keeps this unprofessional attitude in check when he does videos on small campaigns, but it show in his larger, opinionated videos.
>>
>>1448792
>Carolingian
Literally three warring parts

>Ottonian
what is Lechfeld, got to get past the Huns first. And official Crusades were only a century after.
>>
>>1448813
Three warring parts that were each more powerful than any of the duchies and counties that joined the First Crusade, and hardly fought any more than they did. Not to mention how divided Europe was on the eve of the First Crusade, and how many wars were being fought at the time.

>Lechfeld

They could have gone by sea, which was completely doable seeing as how sea travel was the most popular form of travel to the east (even more so than the overland route over the Balkans due to Slavs). Hell, the First Crusade only took the Balkan route as part of the Byzantine plan to subjugate rebellious Serbs.

A list of some good military history youtubers.

>Lindybeige https://www.youtube.com/user/lindybeige/featured
All round rambling about various subjects, the sort of thing you might never have wondered about, or you might, a lot of his videos revolve around myth busting and breaking misconceptions, quirky and entertaining

>ScholaGladiatoria https://www.youtube.com/user/scholagladiatoria/featured
Pretty much all about swords, there's no better youtube authority on the practical and physical uses of swords and other melee weapons, on the surface he isn't very charismatic but something keeps you interested, he just seems nice

>Skallagrim https://www.youtube.com/user/SkallagrimNilsson/featured
Basically reviews and info on actually buying swords and other weapons, he's very useful in this regard, he covers combat use of weapons too but not as much as ScholaGladiatoria, he also delves into myth busting a bit like Lindy

>ThegnThrand https://www.youtube.com/user/ThegnThrand/featured
These guys pretty much entirely revolve around experimental archaeology, the majority of their videos involve stabbing authentic chainmail with authentic swords, throwing javelins at shields, and screaming loudly while thrusting. Great stuff

>Metatron https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIjGKyrdT4Gja0VLO40RlOw/featured
Metatron does a varied bunch of videos, but he mainly stays around debunking ridiculous documentaries, equipment comparisons, or lengthy explanations of historical concepts and weaponry which is where he is at his best.

>Shadiversity https://www.youtube.com/user/shadmbrooks
Shad mostly does very long videos where he explains concepts and equipment in a very long and detailed manner, but not boring. He is great for more in depth knowledge on a specific subject.
