I'm playing Combat Mission and I want to get better at it. What are some good sources on warfare tactics?
Osprey has a series of books on WW2 tactic:

Read up on Alexander's campaigns against the Greek states and Persia. That should give you easy to swallow basics on the dynamics of fast and slow units working in concert with one another while also being entertaining because Alexander the Great.

Literally hammer and anvil ad nauseam, except maybe the last big one, in India.

Operations is going to be the most helpful for playing strategy games. That and playing them a lot so you can practice. IIRC the Combat Mission games have simultaneous moves so they feel harder than turn-based games, because you have to anticipate what a opponent is doing rather than taking time to react to their moves like in Steel Panthers or XCOM.
Combat Skills of the Soldier is really more about stuff that pertains to the individual infantryman or fireteam/squad, and would be more suited for somebody who wants to be better at playing ARMA but doesn't want to pay for the big "ARMA for Dummies" guide the ShackTac guy wrote.
The Global Security website should have both of them as HTML and PDF files.
Read On War by Clausewitz while the game is paused to simulate the long hours of downtime you'll actually be faced with.

These series are really helpful.
