Not nearly as fun as the OP pic is implying.

It ranged from literally being worked to death to being a mid/high level businessman or civil servant.

Note that in the Roman Empire, slaves generally didn't increase in population, unlike in the American South.

This is because the conditions were generally too harsh for the slaves to have children of their own.

This didn't matter to the Romans, who could always catch some more. This is a major reason for the decrease in Europe's population in between the second and seventh centuries AD.

Also, some slaves were there under a temporary contract (usually to get out of debt). After slavery, you were given full citizenship (if you were male, of course) and sent on your way.

if you were in the city of rome it's probably not too bad
find your self in the bonnies and it's not as different as good old North American slavery

also they liked to specialize the types of slaves so if you were a Greek slave you were a full time teacher

You mean to say "slaves that were clearly were of another race didn't increase in population". You can't compare slavery of antiquity to chattel slavery in the Americans. Many slaves were release by their masters and in many cases, being a slave was more akin to being a permanent employee. This of course varied from place to place as slaves from more urbanized places would be treated better than a captured barbarian who would most likely be worked to death in a spanish silver mine

Not full citizenship. You had a status of a released slave and your family got full citizenshp status after 3 generations (IIRC)

In general, in early period of Rome it was okay. Slave still wasn't seen as just a tool. There were fewer slaves and they generally worked with (extended) family.
Gradually it grew worse however and by the time of late Republic and early period of Empire it was awful.
Then, due to many slave revolts, things started improving again.
Of course everything depended on what kind of slave you were. This is just a simplistic overview.
