Not usually, no. It takes a lifetime of training to become a longbowman, as you need to adjust to using a bow that has a draw weight of over 100 lbs, and you need to be able to fire it accurately and quickly over at human sized targets over a hundred yards away, probably smaller targets since most will be fairly well armored. Plus, archers do not have the protection or reputation for bravery that armored knights and horsemen have.
