It may boggle your mind to discover Christians fought in Muslims armies and Muslims fought in Chirstian armies during the Reconquista.

They were exempt from military service

But I'm sure they wanted revenge against the crusaders for their atrocities

Simple fact is, homogeneous armies never existed.

Yup. It was not always Muslims vs Christians.

Some Muslims preferred the Christians to their Muslim enemies. And the opposite happened, as well.
