Then you don't want to be an ascetic. Even Theravada monks beg for food to live. It is kind of hard to be an ascetic when you don't put faith in the world for your provisions. It's considered an extreme lifestyle for a reason.

You could work on a commune and only take what's absolutely necessary, sleep on the ground under a tarp, etc.

If you want to be totally self reliant your best bet is to try and forage for food or dig through the garbage. Usually that's not enough though hence begging.

Maybe learn an instrument and busk so you aren't technically a total leech, you'd be getting paid for a public performance.
