Ray lives and works in Japan, and Japanese censorship laws wouldn't allow him to distribute the game uncensored. This is the same reason why Seismic is wary of releasing Liru uncensored--because of the legal problems of his region.

That's why SP probably seemed enticing to him--because they would handle the legal burden and the distribution while he instead focused on the JP release.

SP's existence in this transaction is in having an existing working relationship with Ray (due to HitomeBore), handling the legal miasma related to censorship laws, and distribution.

The translator by himself, assuming he could contact Ray directly before Ray hair-trigger blocked him without reading more than the first two words, would at best be able to get an English version of the JP game out on DLSite English.

There's not a single word about the licensing of the game itself, all we know is that SP got the rights to translation only - and we can assume they used it to make Ray give them a share of his profits they do not deserve in the slightest. No one ever officially said SP and Ray did strike a deal, and in the worst case (i.e.Ray told them to fuck off) this means the translation will never be used and we're fucked.

If the TL didn't sell out, he and Ray could've worked out an official English release on DLsite and Steam without the worthless middle-man that is SP. Or they wouldn't and the status quo would've remained as is, with DLsite sales only and unofficial translation which would be up to date.

However, there are remnants of WIP code in 2.0 which suggest that the wine scene is getting expanded into its own little minigame. There's code which translates to "If Sylvie has had three glasses of wine, move to wine_touch.ks".

wine_touch.ks actually exists and has code left in it, enough to make me think that the only reason it's not implemented is because the script (that is, Sylvie's responses) isn't finished. The code itself in there basically says that you can touch her wherever when she's in a silly state and she'll make silly responses. However, at present there are two limiters to this minigame.

For one, each touch reduces your wine inventory by 0.5. In case that wasn't enough, it includes a loopback to check to see how many total actions you've taken. If that number is 11, then you'll say it's gotten late and the scene ends.

This suggests that we'll be able to drink more wine, or rather than the 'portion size' of wine in 2.0 is smaller than it was before. Makes sense since it will now have more depth to it.
