It would be really disappointing if the deletion of the translation patch (and possible attempt at the deletion of the modpatch) was actually caused by Ray. But even if that is true, I hope that the creators of the patches wouldn't just abandon this game.

I only did Michiru's route, which surprised me, since I started off rather disliking her. But by the time her route started, I was curious as to what was going on, and the story really got to me. It's one of the few games/stories that could actually make me cry. And I started on Makina's route, but I can tell that sadness is about to strike that one with a vengence. I get the feeling that when I finish it, I'll be wanting to read something sweet and fluffy and happy to get back on an even keel.

I didn't expect to like her at all, since I've never been a fan of tsunderes. I tend to kinda take them at face value, and when first rebuffed by one, figure they want nothing to do with me and leave. But as somebody with my own mental disorders and past abuse, her route really got to me (especially since I'd been playing for 30 uninterrupted hours). After finishing it, I can see why people have her as a favorite, but so far, my favorite is Sachi, so I'm saving her route for last.
Later playthroughs? Oh, geez, it's going to be a while before I could go play through it from the start again. I have an idea of why the patches are getting hit by copyright claims.

According to a certain source, Sekai Project is taking responsibility for Teaching Feeling's localization in an official capacity. The deals are likely already signed, all that's waiting is the public announcement. Probably at AX this July.

Why go the official route for localization? Increased visibility to the English market as opposed to an unofficial patch, additional sales in short-term and long-term both. More money for everyone.

Why would Ray choose to work with Sekai Project over any other company or seeking out independent TLs? Because he has a prestanding relationship from other work: http://store.steampowered.com/app/353330/

Sekai Project is also known for headhunting big-shot licenses. Teaching Feeling is one of the most successful "indie" eroge in terms of sales (just look at the dlsite figures), so this snipe makes some sense as far as SP's own motivations.

Additionally, it would not surprise me if Sekai Project has promised to try and put a ridiculously gutted version of the game on steam and then "patch" in the porn that makes up the majority of the game's actual content. I can see Ray promising to flesh out the "no lewds" route on his end.

Finally, I know for a fact that at least a few people involved with SP marketing are aware of this exact thread at this point, which such a highly specific interest that it only makes me more sure of all the above information. If I had to guess, some middle-level PR/marketing guy at SP trying to make a name for himself and claim some scalps and deliver the head of the "dirty EOP pirate patch distributors" at their superiors' feet.

I fear for the ultimate quality of whatever garbage localization SP finally barfs out way behind schedule. I pray that I am wrong about all this, but if this harebrained rumor has any truth to it, then let us try and keep this thread alive on our own terms.

The same source provided the (accurate) info that SP was going to be delaying NP3 in light of Sayori's illness, a long while before the public announcement was made. I had the same initial skepticism when I first talked with them but after that tidbit of info turned out to be exact down to the day of the announcement of the delay, I take them more seriously now. If it wasn't for that (admittedly still somewhat scant) one accurate prediction, I wouldn't trust it enough to spread it.

I fail to see how this would impact this nice little thing here involving a few anons maintaining a mod patch. Even the translation provided here could be considered a 'mod' against an 'official' translation. And even with the occasional link going down, there is little stopping fan created translations and mods from spreading. New uploads can be created, a torrent version of the modpatch and translation patch could be created if it was too difficult to maintain a file download.
If SP do make a gutted version for steam, more power to them I suppose. They'll suck the hype dry and piss off to the putting the next thinly veiled porn game on steam, and these threads shall just continue to do their thing unfettered.

I tend to overthink things a lot. I ended up overthinking this game. Specifically, the names of the characters, and how they fit so damn well.

The suspicious man, Ferrum, is iron. Unalloyed iron is notorious for rust and brittleness, and requires care to keep in good condition - but properly maintained, iron is also immensely useful in so many applications, and is the cornerstone of acquiring almost every other worthwhile material, especially other metals.

Sylvie is the silver. Silver is notable as being valuable, precious even, and used as a form of lesser currency - and without proper care, it can tarnish. I think it's fairly obvious by the state of Sylvie that such care was not given, and at that point, allowing further damage to silver risks it being ruined. And how does one bring silver back to good condition? In most cases, careful rubbing does the job. Sounds similar to a certain pat of the head, doesn't it?

Then there's Aurelia - the gold. Viewed as beautiful all through the ages, the most widely used currency material for such a long time - appropriate for a merchant of appearance-adjusting apparel, no?

I'm having difficulty remembering the reference made by Nephy's name, but I imagine I could overthink a meaning into that, too. But for now, it's time to pat heads and heal smiles.

All right everybody, Patch-kun's back, back again, tell a friend, etc.

I'd like to clarify what happened with the English patch. First and foremost, it wasn't taken down by a DMCA request--I took it down personally. Entirely by coincidence (which freaked me out too!) TS-tan's Mega account got hit with a DMCA but it turned out to be completely unrelated to his hosting the modpatch, as he mentioned earlier. So no, there was no evil corporate nonsense going on. Voluntary stuff.

As someone managed to figure out, however, it did go down because the project has been officially licensed by Sekai Project. Before you all freak out and say the game is gonna be shit and whatever, though, I should point out that the official version was put together by the same people who've been giving you the unofficial version. You know, us. So if you thought the unofficial version was crap, well...I can't help ya.

But I can say that the official version is everything the unofficial version was except better. I personally am quite proud of it on the whole, and I hope that everyone here who enjoyed the unofficial version can get that same enjoyment out of the official one. Once I have more details to share y'all will be the first to know.

Until then, it's been a great year and a half. See you on the legit side.

My speculation is that if the official version does well enough, Ray will want the English version to be lock-step with the JP. I personally hope it goes that way too. Sekai Project are a bunch of filthy liars who never lives up to their words. When they lie they also try to cover up their tracks, to the point that they'll try to literally rewrite history by editing old web pages and crap in an attempt to cover up their tracks.

And they really do not give a fuck at all about their partners. Be them publishers, developers, or translators.
Like how they kept lying about Akabei or FrontWing, blaming their partners for their own flaws, knowing that they had no English speaking medium that could refute their lies. Until of course, they did and called Sekai Project out on their lies and slander crap.
Or how they utterly screwed Aroduc over on the whole BaldrSky deal. Fooling not only Aroduc, but Giga themselves. Acquiring the licence from Giga by using Aroduc's work as leverage, without actually consulting Aroduc or having Aroduc be part of the conversation. Then expecting Aroduc to just willingly give away his years of work over to them and then just fuck off. Naturally he didn't. So now Sekai Project have a licence that they don't have the work done for that they told Giga that they had. With no work done for it. In addition to leaving Aroduc unable to ever release the translation he worked on for so long for it.

Sekai Project hates the eroge market and its fans. They've gone and record and said so countless of times. They never even wanted to be part of the market. They can fuck off!

Fortunately we were all members on ULMF. However, note that since this is the official build, it does not include any modded content that TF-tan implements. For that, a modpatch would still be required (and would work on the official build just as easily as on the JP build).

The game is not decensored--it's uncensored. There is a very important difference. However, there is a particular scene where Nari's expertise was needed to smooth things out.

The official translation is not quite the same as the unofficial one, but either way it's still from my work. The official one is a little stricter, for instance on sections like the Sylvie Status page. The idea is to clean up all the jank so that it actually flows presentably, and I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

I wish I could show you, to be honest, but I'm waiting for a more official announcement too.

Oh fuck off. The number of times that they absolutely butcher licences is regular enough that even with exceptions, everyone would still be better off without them.

Alright, so let's recap:
1. Sekai Project is going to release the game on Steam. This shitty version will lack half of the content and require additional patching, which defies the whole point of downloading the game from Steam.
2. No more translation patches, unless someone else (like TS-tan) will keep making them by ripping the translation from the Steam release.
3. Everyone who have bought the game on DLSite and want to play it in English are fucked.
