I've seen a lot of "guy doesn't work and just lounges around at home while girl is out supporting both of them, and the guy is shitty to the girl on top of that" which is an inversion of a common unpleasant scenario from the last century. I mostly have seen this with younger people, 20s and 30s sorts. Dumb guys mooch off girls the way dumb girls mooch off guys; the moocher always gets bitter and shitty, and the mooched one is bitter too for more justifiable reasons, and it takes way too long for one of them to end it. Good looks help, but I've seen very average/aging men and women pull off the parasite role.

As you noted, historically men fought in wars/did the hard labour and women did home labour. Women didn't have significant incomes because they focused on domestic tasks. Home labour was way more involved than our modern technologically advanced and more detached way of maintaining our homes, life, and children. A lot of people don't cook much because there are tons of restaurants and pre-made/easy-to-make meals, there are preschools and such to watch kids, and homes are bought prebuilt with either replacable gear or specialists that can come fix anything that breaks. We still have labour jobs, but most of the jobs are office work or service industry things that don't require back-breaking physically taxing work. So now, women more often can get the same role that men had and thus can be on the other end of the shitty relationship.

Whenever I'm looking up construction, auto repair, sustainable farming, guns, and other "adult" tasks and topics, there are plenty of blogs and videos by women for things that traditionally would be male. I'm female myself and am always the higher income/physical labour/fixing broken things role in my relationships.


tl;dr thanks to modernization, anyone can be a useless leech that takes their partner for granted!
