Candy and /koe/ guy has made a storage server dedicated to backup/upload voice works within' it.

The storage space for the server is currently 512 GB big and requires a sFTP client in order to connect and download/upload (such as FileZilla, WinSCP etc.). Downloaders are able to just connect and download. As for uploaders who wish to contribute something... hop into the Discord server. Go to #verification and ask for permission. Candy and /koe/ guy will be sitting there and talk with you. This is to prevent from random people to just join and fill the server up with random crap.

You can also visit voice.station.moe in order to check if a certain voice work has been uploaded or not. If you wanna check a full listing of what's been uploaded, connect to the sFTP instead or search "RJ" at voice.station.moe for
most of the DLSite's stuff. All informations regarding about what username, password, host address etc. and how to get permission to upload stuff, can be found at the FAQ page. Click on the image in order to see the url for the FAQ.

So I wanna start off with explaining why HVDB is invite-only and not publicly open, because people have been asking about it and we've gotten negative feedbacks, which we expected. I wrote it on a pastebin because I didn't wanna fill the thread with a huge block of text. If you ever make it out alive from reading the whole thing, we want to know if you agree with this approach. Is there something we could change or improve? Any more features you want us to add in? etc.

The idea is respectable and makes a lot of sense, personally I missed the invite period and will wait for another at some point but the complaining I think comes from the idea that people will never be able to make it in.

People lack patience, there's a lot of stuff out there they can get just now. There was already private sharing circles in the past and I imagine there still is - reality is that at least you know this one exists without knowing the right people first :3

HVDB is honestly VERY VERY lenient for a invite-only site. Its basically open for anyone. The current community does well keeping it up. There are periods for people who are dedicated enough to voice works to get in. If they aren't serious enough to get in, then they shouldn't be in.

Theres nothing elitist about it. Piracy-esque sites are more secure the more secluded they are and there is an OPEN registration every month or so. Most invite only communities require interviews and a lot of contribution before you get "member" privileges.
They opened up registration and I made an account in less than a minute and have yet to exchange words with anyone from the HVDB community. If you cant find a minutes free time in the 48 hours they give you then that's your problem.

Two questions for Candy/Reshnix/whoever else is running HVDB:

1. I understand that tag creation was locked recently because of the mess of redundant/bad tags, but there are still quite a few dlsite tags and new CVs that aren't in hvdb. I like to add/fix tags and CVs and atm it's pretty frustrating, I don't like leaving the job half-done. I'm not even sure what an ideal solution would be, but do you guys have any plans on the future of this feature?

P.S. I would prefer to eventually have both jp and eng tags the way CVs are currently handled, but it's not a big deal

2. I have a modest collection of works but I delete stuff to save space (like wav versions of works that have both wav and mp3). Is it OK to zip and upload incomplete works, or should we stick to uploading only the original versions? I can see an argument for sticking to original versions on the db, but it would be nice to provide something rather than nothing for a work with no links left alive. One idea that I'm sure has been suggested is allowing multiple download links on a work. What are your thoughts on all this?

I'm still cleaning up the tag system right now. Give me another week and I'll have something up that will enable adding tags. As for having both jp and English tags, I'm leaning on just English tags to normalize tagging better. But I'm open to suggestions if anything comes up.

Personally I prefer to stick to Japanese whenever possible (titles, CVs, tags) because some of them translate rather awkwardly and the canonical versions are all in Japanese to begin with. Obviously the db needs to have English for those in the community who don't know Japanese, but having both would be nice for those who don't need the translations. Like I said, though, it's a minor consideration.

As far as suggestions go, my ideal system for tags would include both English and Japanese tags and also allow us to add more tags than dlsite does. Plenty of works are under-tagged to begin with, and there are also quite a few niche interests/fetishes that are impossible to search for because dlsite doesn't tag them specifically. I feel like we could crowd-source our way to a much better system of organization than dlsite has to begin with (c.f. any of the boorus).

As for download links, I envision a system where the uploader can add an annotation that specifies stuff like mp3 vs wav version (like people do in thses threads) or alternative download sites, and it just adds another link to the page with the annotation above it.

Are there any ear cleaning works that are better than ayaka? Anything by Asami Yui is the second best I could find, not for her sound effects but for her breathing alongside the sound effects. I've listened to eryps and a few others and nothing sounds as good as ayaka's effects, either they are too soft or mixed poorly with mic chirping.

Candy / Reshnix / There are some questions for people managing other HVDB

1: If the download link of HBDV is invalid, or the link destination file is corrupted and can not be decompressed, can I replace it with a new link that can successfully download the file?

2: What if the content of the audio work does not exist in the currently available tags?

3: What do the meanings of "add to my works" and "favorite" in the page of the sound work mean?

1. If a link is broken, feel free to replace it. If you are unable to replace it, simply remove the link and attach a broken link tag to it.

2. I will eventually create an orderly system so tags can be re-added. Until then, just work with what's on the site. If a tag or CV really needs to be added, post it on the thread, and I will add it in manually.

3. Add to my works will track that particular work and add it to the list viewable on the "My Works" page. Adding to favorite will highlight the work in your "My Works" page and bring it to the top of the list.

I would translate stuff for hvdb more but the system is kind of flawed. A guy that translates a 30s sound clip gets the same points as a guy translating a 2 hour dialogue heavy work.

Not the same poster, but I'd like to bring up something related to this.
Editing existing works currently doesn't give any points even though it takes more time and effort than adding a work and not editing any fields.
I don't really care about the points with the current reward system (I just help because I want to), but if a different reward or point requirement system was ever implemented, it would be good if people who fix up a lot of existing DB entries but don't add many new ones get points for that too.

It could be something like 0.5 points per tag and CV added for example.
And yeah, the script translation stuff is definitely the highest effort and should give more points.

Related to the reward system, maybe it would be more incentivizing if big contributors gained advanced features (personal notes, or a personal catalog, different themes, etc.)
Just throwing out some ideas.

And as for tags, you could take the entire set from http://www.dlsite.com/maniax/fs/=/language/jp/sex_category%5B0%5D/male/per_page/30 and get a few people to go through them and localize them properly so they make sense in English since some of the current tags are Google/dictionary translated (e.g. "word blame").

It would be good if we could get one official set with proper translations, and all the faulty ones would either be removed or merged with the appropriate tag/CV.
And then more can be added down the line so we can have even more detailed descriptors than DLsite. :)

As for display language, it would be logical to go with English since HVDB is basically the place to go for people who can't read JP.
Or display both, so the tags would look like "ear cleaning (耳かき)," for example.
Or you could add a setting that lets the user choose the display settings (EN, JP, EN + JP, JP + EN, other languages, etc.)
Could be one of those contributor features I mentioned earlier.

Not saying you have to do everything at once if it comes across as pushy, just throwing out some suggestions.

I appreciate all of the suggestions. Getting the tagging system sorted out for different languages is definitely a priority. I'll see what I can do for incentiving the tagging system more to encourage greater database accuracy and reward major editors.

As for getting the tags from dlsite, I've put in a few checks that will alias certain tags from dlsite to tags present in HVDB. Automatically filling in tags at work creation will be the next step in the tag normalizing process.

I'll see what I can do for contributor features, but development along that line will probably be slower than fixing up main site issues since my own personal time is limited and I'm pretty much doing all of the development work on the site by myself.

Well, I'm not going explain in depth on how we found out about him, in case if other members does the same thing as he did so we can use the same method etc. But I can say for certain it was him because multiple voice works that used to be exclusively uploaded at HVDB, was uploaded at Anime-Sharing as well within' a short period of time. However, ever since we got rid of him... no newer works from HVDB has been uploaded to A-S since.

Another reason why I'm very sure it's him, is because he changed his avatar to the same one he uses at Anime-Sharing after he got banned.

I'd assume that a voice doesn't have to sound hypnotic to put you into a hypnotized state, and just because a girl has a hypnotic voice doesn't mean that she can hypnotize you.

Some of them are a bit off though.

At a quick glance I see "144 Oral Assault 言葉責め."
I dunno, but that makes me think of a sexual act, it should just be "verbal abuse" which is unambiguous and closer to the intended meaning.
"137 Tight Binding 緊縛" should just be "bondage," etc.

"280 Ephebophilia/Shonen-ai レトロ/耽美" Not sure how they get the ephebophilia out of that and I have no idea how 耽美 becomes the latter term, but granted I have no interest in that genre so maybe it's a slang thing.

With some editing this list would make a good base.

It sounds like Discord is killing these threads, not HVDB. Getting rid of HVDB will get rid of invite begging, not work begging. Bottom line, there's always going to be begging. Lots of reaction posts so far, and not a single one of them is "Haha, so glad HVDB is ded faggot". More people liked your thing than hated it.

Like I've said before, HVDB is not supposed to be a replacement for the thread. It was the thread that introduced me to voice works in the first place and it was the thread that inspired me to build the site. So it saddens me to see it go to shit because of my site.

However, I understand the importance of HVDB to the current user base and I do not wish to let any of you down. I apologize for the begging that the site has caused so far.

This brings me to a new HVDB policy. We have built up quite a large userbase at this point. As a result, we need to start being more careful about who enters the site. This is where the invite system comes in. If you want to get into the site, please make your case to the current userbase. Simply posting your email and asking for an invite will not get you anywhere. In addition, I will be more closely monitoring the thread. Any person that simply asks for an invite without making a case for themselves will be blacklisted from the site.

The invite system is supposed to be about building trust and a relationship between the current userbase and new users. There are many ways to build trust even if you can't contribute directly by uploading works. To my current users, I urge you to take advantage of the invite system. Be open without being naive. Be careful without being discriminatory.

May HVDB go far into the future.
