I do tend to like the old stuff better.

Part of me thinks it is an illusion, that when you are searching through older anime you are more likely to find things that have been "upvoted" by time, whereas with new hentai the good stuff hasn't had time to rise to the top so it's more of a crapshoot and you end up watching rubbish.

There are still a few newer series that I think are ace. Star Jewel, Kanojo x Kanojo x Kanojo. Koe De Oshigoto and Aki Sora are softcore but still super hot. But yeah, seems good stuff came out way more regularly in the 90s and 00s.

I don't know if this is the case for the other two OVA series that OP mentioned, but Bible Black at times would look like they just colored in storyboard art and """""animated""""" it, and at other times like something you'd find on Newgrounds. Even this scene from Bible Black, the first one that involved sex if I recall. Note the proper care to proportion, use of shadows that actually highlight the topology of the body, that really define the shape of the female figure well without resorting to any sort of highlighting trick.

Some scenes are looped. Obviously, re-using your work in any entertainment industry is an unavoidable reality. But they try to hide it with some nice editing and dialogue, and there's no use of weird camera shots and effects, only very dry cuts.

Now this is another world entirely. Highlighting with white on the characters is a lot more pronounced, giving everything a bubbly, plastic-y appearance. Camera pans and shake are not just used, but overused. This makes the looping scenes *very* pronounced and feels like a lazy way to try and give the impression that something different is happening on the screen.

Stuff like this is still kinda hot, but the difference in quality and effort is apparent, especially in the way characters are portrayed. Might come down to a taste thing, however.

So studios made decent money on their series.

But that's not the case anymore. The internet and digital sharing killed that cow in the early 2000s. So studios aren't willing to take risks like spending more on animation or putting more "outside the box" stories or fetishes in the shows because they know it doesn't increase their profits to do so.
