You can stereotype Otokawa's character as a virgin but given the setting of Discipline, it's not much of a stretch to say thay she did it/was forced into, hated/regretted it and tend to avoid it ever since. That is until she found a man who she deems to be worthy to devote herself to. And yes, the latter type also happens a lot in Japanese materials.
