Left side is your scan, right side is the one by BegBeg. Top row is originals(I had to resize yours because the original resolution would make 4chan's upload limit weep) Bottom row is edited to pull out all artifacts/noise and you can clearly see the difference as to what i'm talking about.

You'll probably say that leveling could fix the problem, and while thats true and what most Editors/Translators usually tend to use for a quick fix, it destroys the details of the image.

Both yours and BegBeg's scan is already scaned/set at a predefined point so even if you try to set levels to match BegBeg's scan it will always consume much more detail with each tick.

But again, that doesn't mean that your scan is worse than BegBeg's scan at all. Like i mentioned earlier, Leveling works and gets the job done but it eats away details like crazy. There are manual methods you can do to clean/remove all the noise but it'll take ages to do. If someone is willing to put in the time and effort yours could look much better than Beg's, not to mention his version is missing quite a lot of the drawn backgrounds thats present in yours.

Again, don't take what i said out of context which is not what it was meant to do. I've done quite a lot of CG/Texture work myself and if i ever decide to continue working on Jin's stuff again it'll definitely be your version i will be using.

Vary your backgrounds, or rather, add some backgrounds. This isn't a hyperbolic time chamber.

Don't throw gradients on everything, especially not speech bubbles. Keep those white unless there's some compelling reason not to.

Preciate the feedback but that's the reason for the "Test" next to the filename. Color palettes are not even finalized.

There are some people out there who piggy back of these artists and demand money for translating/editing etc etc, everything i do is completely free and i don't want nor get a dime out of it.

Its a proven fact that anything you do will never satisfy everyone in the world because everyone differs in likes. Without offending anyone and make it bluntly, if it looks good to me that's what i'm going with. If you don't like what you see, that's absolutely fine too because that's your opinion and there's also the version from the Chinese group for you that's probably more to your liking.

When I was doing doujin colouring work I found other people's comments to be highly valuable. I actually redid every page following the revelation that my monitor was uncalibrated and redid the entire thing again once I discovered that there was a better source material to work from. The guy did a pretty damn good job in my opinion. One of the best Jin fan work i've seen thus far. I color H stuff myself and know for sure i can't match his work but at least he put his cards on the table and shared. I'd like to see you do the exact same page and exact same scan by Shakuganaexa and i'll do the same to make it fair game. Anyone can take the eyedropper tool and mimic the color. It's a completely different story to actually apply it to a flat Doujin/Manga canvas filled to the brim with various tones that's also been 2nd handed scanned.

You see their arms, legs etc the've probably been blended together like a billion times. Your coloring is a great attempt but that's exactly why the skin tone on your picture doesn't match up with the cover.

You'd think that'd be the case, but I think Sai's internal algorithm for allocating memory just isn't cooperating. I've got 16GB, about 12GB free, Sai reserves only 4GB, and thus hits the cap.
Tried increasing the max canvas size to reserve more, but the number went down lol.
So it's a split between downsampling or using Ps. Me and Ps don't get along, so I went with the former.

Its a good piece of work and i give you absolute credit for it but there are color selections i don't like because thats according to own personal preference but i'm not going to jump on you like a jackal like you did to the guy. You use lighter colors and he uses a much darker tone, that doesn't give you the right to jump all over his ass for it. Do your own thing and let others do theirs.

I don't say "use light backgrounds", I simply advocate variety.
Every suggestion is a technical one, nothing to do with tone since I know nothing about MTSP's works.
If you guys don't like it, well thats not the point either. The composition as a whole is more readable because of the contrast and it's easier on the eyes.
There's a huge spectrum of colour available for use, limiting yourself to blue tones is a bit...

Yep, those were the high res scans. I got all sorts of corruption going on, even a situation where it looked as if VRAM had been corrupted with random blocks on the canvas. Had to down sample, but used Topaz Clean to add a bit of clarity after squashing down all the details.

Ehehehe the darker tone is in the mind, doesn't necessarily mean darker backgrounds.
The Inn should be crystalline clean for example.

Here you go bud. Spent quite some time on it, hope its to your liking. Took her off the entire page and removed all background distractions. GL with your thread, just gonna lurk from now on and drop the others off as i finish them. Didn't want name/credit anyone because i know for a fact some random keyboard police will come in here and say we're "seeking attention". Strangely enough you mentioned spending a lot of time on it, yet you saved your entire work as a JPEG...

My main focus is the character's so i want them front and center. I like bright and vibrant colors and don't care much for backgrounds because i would rather put all my time and effort into working on the main players of the story. Long as the background is visible, that's good enough for me cause i'm going to fade it out to help bring the characters forth.

Oh man, you brought up such a good point. I remember back then i used to hate those things so much and nuked them out every chance i got because they would cover over body parts and was annoying as hell. But the more i took out it just made the scenes less dramatic so i took out less and less and honestly, it was just more work piled on having to remove them.

Anyways, they've either been drawn or added during post so they are part of the picture itself so whatever you do to the background will effect them in the same manner and vice versa so you'll have to manually take them out.

I don't use Photoshop but it seems to be what a lot of people use so i take it you are as well. One method you can use is the "Clone Stamp" tool to basically copy assets from part of the picture to fill over the working area to match. Another way is taking bits(Copy,Cut,Paste)and pieces of the image and filling them in the area little by little. There is the custom brush method for creating your own brush to fill in the area which has worked very well for me which i'm still practicing on even till now. There are actually quite a lot of ways to go about doing it and i'm sure many other people could help you out even more. Just keep practicing.

On an interesting note, i used to do this and found it to be quite fun and someone recently started a thread about it here :

It's basically erasing/removing all background assets then save it as a PNG to set it as a render. You can then replace the background to white, black, whatever you like. It can be really fun if you get into it.

Hopefully i was able to help you out a bit, it can take ages for someone to sit and type out every little detail so you'll need to do some digging yourself for more in depth details.
