what program do you guys use to edit videos? I have many full HD vids from which I only enjoy maybe 3 or 4 minutes and I want to reduce disk space so I need to cut and conserve only the portions I like without losing much quality. Windows only.
Have some webms from my part as a thank you
I'll post some more after I get some answers

the easier one for begginners is sony vegas v12 and above (don't require as much ram as after effects plus render time is faster and you only have to patch it after downloading the software from the official site / just search tuts on youtube or pay $300 for a license in case you're against piracy)
also try ffmpeg and webmconverter

If you don't want to lose quality, avoid video editing softwares. You should use something like mkvtoolnix where you can give a source, give timecodes and it will split the video for you. And you'll get the portions you like without losing any quality (because it won't reencode the video at all).
Adobe Premiere with WebM plugin.
WebM for Retards sounds like a program you'd be interested in
i use two programs
1. XMedia Recode for getting the right start and end frame with the time stamp ( can also render webm )
2. Webm for Bakas - i use this to get the best out of the file and keep it under the file size for 4chan

seconded. I use ffmpeg to clip videos sometimes and its just a straight clipping, no re-encoding so it takes seconds to do. Had a bunch of 4gb foot videos that had great solo parts but shitty generic fucking for the rest of it.
HowTo: Cut a video directly with ffmpeg, without re-encoding
You only need the -ss and -t options. -ss is the starttime and -t the duration, so if you want 10 seconds from a video starting from minute one, you would use this.
ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -vcodec copy -acodec copy -ss 00:00:03.000 -t 00:02:12.000 testcomplete.mp4
editing will almost always degrade quality slightly- though that doesnt matter if you're making webm's since youd be scaling down resolution anyways

adobe cc.
XMedia Recode is the easiest to use.
OpenShot is open source/free and works on many platforms. Can export to webm. http://www.openshot.org/

OP here. The FFMpeg solution works well, guess I'll start clipping my videos like mad and save hundreds of gigs.
Have vid related as a token of my appreciation

Be sure to create some webms along the way and contribute to /gif/
ffmpeg to cut videos is a good idea, however, h264/avc can only be cut starting at i-frames. if you give it any arbitrary start-time, it will look for i-frame that comes afterwards, that can be anywhere between 0 and 10s later, depending on the encoder settings the porn site used.
i use mpc or its variants to go through the video, skipping through to the interesting spots. then find the closest i-frame that comes before the segment of interest (shift-left/shift-right in mpc, mpc-hc uses ctrl-left/right i think, its configurable). write down the starting time. the endtime of each segment does not depend on i-frames.
then subtract 1 second from each start-time because cutting tools cut on the first iframe AFTER the start-time.
once you have all the start-end segments, you can give it to ffmpeg.
i use mkvmerge gui (part of mkvtoonix) to do the same thing.
the timings look like this:
>00:03:52-00:04:02,+00:04:27-00:04:50,+00:09:37-00:09:55,+00:13:46-00:14:02,+00:15:14-00:15:50,+00:23:53-00:24:15,+00:25:07-00:25:37,+00:28:19-00:28:30

i forgot to mention that the mpc/mpc-hc config calls these iframes "keyframes" in the hotkey config, the generic term for. iframe is specific to some codecs.

I use VSDC. The free version has all the features I need to edit, crop, etc. videos.

Use youtube, you can upload in private status and edit using youtube editing software after the upload, this way you won't need any disk space and the videos are safe forever.

Avidemux for everything except WMV, super easy to use.
if you cut on I-frames you can save without re-encoding. Be sure to select the right container as it defaults on AVI at start.

Just use Xmedia Recode, you can set it to directly copy it's current format and video/audio settings and cut exact time clips for what you want to keep.

>Xmedia Recode
I would just like to say that this is one of the worst apps I've tried
>>9537810
Fact this is compressed to 1.66mb is already impressive.
>>9538149
Vidio bit rate on something like this can be dropped to 100 Kbps and still look good as there's virtually no motion.
>>9538149
no, it really isn't impressive unless you have no idea how the compression works
>>9538649
indeed, people who recommend xmedia recode should be shot
