I have a note 4 with a Google cardboard. There are virtually reality videos that have head tracking, where the video is altered to give it a better 3d effect. But there's an app called VaR's video player, where you can take even a regular video and choose to make it stereoscopic. You're not supposed to cross your eyes, quite the opposite. You "unfocus"/relax them so they don't "converge" at one point on the screen, but look into the distance "through" the screen and each eye sees its own picture. You may need to experiment with resizing your video (just drag the frame in VLC Player), so the centers of the pictures are exactly as far apart as your pupils.

this, there is a difference between parallel viewing and cross viewing - think about it, when you look through the vr headset each eye is independently looking at the image directly in front of it, not across at the image on the other side

they are pretty similar and there is some crossover but you get better results if you are doing the proper method for the image you are viewing

/r/parallelview and /r/crossview have a bunch of images and some explanations on how to figure out which one you are actually doing

parallel view usually requires your eyes to be much closer to the images than crossview

Specifically... the ones that look like they were recorded with a fisheye lense... are certainly VR.

You play them in a VR headset, with a VR player... and that weird fisheye look goes away because the video is stretched 180 degrees around your field of view so that when you move your head... it's like looking around an actual room... with an actual girl... the effect is spoiled if you turn all the way around though... because most videos are only recorded to be viewed from 4 legged chair... not a swivel.

That's parallel viewing for you. It's much more comfortable imo, and my vision impairment actually allows me to get focus when viewing such images 2-3 inches away.
