Chechen wars in a nutshell.

First of all, since ancient times and up to 1990s, the society in Chechnya was clan-based. Clans warred against each other, remembered hudred-year old grudges, etc. In other words, the society wasn't united.

After the dissolution of the USSR, a vacuum of power was created. In Checnya, there were people who had an idea of uniting the society, making it monolithic. The only possibility they saw was a cataclysm - a war agains a common enemy.

With help of sponsors from certain Muslim states, they spread radical islam which resulted in violent ethnic cleanings against Russians in Grozny and in the republic in general.

They seized power, and declared independence. The atrocities towards Russian population urged the then Russia's president Yeltsin (an alcoholic liberal who was installed with help from the West) to start an operation to recapture the republic. The military was in a disarray from the dissolution of the USSR, the operation was badly planned and executed and was a failure. The republic became de-facto independent. It wasn't a well-functioning state though because the leaders were islamic combatants, not polititians.

In 2000, Putin, the genius of geopolitics, somehow found a way to convert one of the Chechen combatant commanders, a descendant of a respected clan, Akhmad Kadyrov, who had enough religious authority to rule the republic.

As a response to the invasion of neighbouring Dagestan (a part of Russia) by Chechen militants, a well-planned offensive ("The Second Chechen war") was conducted and the respublic has been successfully recaptured and restored a subject of Russian Federation under Kadyrov. Kadyrov succeeded to counter the radical Islam and pacify the population.

Currently, his son, Ramzan Kadyrov is ruling and is very loyal to Putin.

Squad comes pretty close. It's not shit like missiles and stuff, but the sound effects for incoming gunfire is incredible.

That feel when you are running through the woods with your squad trying to flank an enemy position, and all of a sudden there's gunfire out of nowhere - your squad drops to the ground and there's a second of confusion before people start calling out over the mic that they're injured, they're down, bearings that the shots came from, etc.

When it goes right, Squad is probably my favourite shooter atm. Good enough to give an ex-military friend of mine pretty bad anxiety when he heard the gunfire.
