Boxing is more of an endurance/long game. In boxing one of the key tactics if to fake a lot to prevent yourself from becoming unpredictable.
McGregor knew what he was doing- he was throwing a light jab to try to get Mayweather to move- it was a bluff. Mayweather could have potentially ducked down- leaving himself open for a low hook. This is something that really good boxers like Mayweather know not to buy into though.

Essentially, it comes down to McGregor trying a standard boxing strategy, but failing to realize that pro level boxers know to avoid it. If anything it shows McGregor is a beginner boxer who knows the strategies but ultimately lacks experience.

Boxing is about as popular worldwide as American football. The higher checks are the reason it's dying.
