In all honesty it would not be very feasible. Even if the government did a so-so job at getting most of the guns, people would still hide their guns or just build rifles. Just look at how crime went up in Australia and Britain after they had a nation-wide ban of firearms. It'd really do no good.

You think you're the only one? I got short arms and I've used the grip where I hold the magazine without any problems. Hell, in the army we were taught to use the the magazine as a monopod when firing prone, and that worked just as well. No feed issues ever.
