I felt a bit alienated. However, when I think of those days, I always get this sense of coziness and nostalgia... it's because I had a routine, or rather a ritual: every night, before going to bed, I would spend half an hour, sometimes a little more, on the roof, sitting, smoking a cigarette, calmly drinking a little whisky, listening the the 25th Hour soundtrack, as i watched the city skyline (yeah, yeah, pretentious, I know). I always enjoyed those moments greatly, and I miss them a lot.

tl;dr: find a ritual which gives you a sense of safety and balance. Keep it simple, stick to it and perform it to perfection, so that you can savor the moment.

I really like this thread. It makes me so nostalgic... especially the OP image. It reminds me of playing computer games in my bedroom late at night as a child. It reminds me of playing one last round of counterstrike before bed, playing diablo 2, baulder's gate... the dim blue glow of the computer monitor, my ceiling fan gently humming in the background, crickets chirping outside. I miss that so much. I miss staying up until 3am leveling up in WoW or Everquest, or playing halo 1 online with friends, not having any obligations the following morning.

Now I have a job and a real life but I would love nothing more than to get to relive those memories.
