I watched McGregor's rise in the UFC.

When he was coming up, it looked like the UFC was protecting him from wrestlers.

After his fight vs. Champion Aldo was cancelled he took a fight vs a strong wrestler (Mendes) on short notice. Even though he won that fight, I was still sure he'd lose to Aldo.

After he blitzed Aldo (at 145lbs) and took that silly, short-notice mismatch 25lbs heavier vs Nate Diaz, I thought it was such hubris. The Diaz bros are tough as hell, not easily finished vs. same-sized opponents, let alone a 145-pounder.

Gif related. It's Diaz getting head-kicked TKO'd vs. Thomson. It was a perfectly timed, catching Diaz as he was ducking down to block/catch what he thought was a leg kick.

McGregor lost handily. All was right in the world, and once again I felt like I knew what I was talking about.

When he demanded a rematch vs. Diaz at SAME OVERSIZE 170lb class, I was blown away! Diaz bro with full camp, training in rematch-mode (ie. with fresh fighting experience to train on)! I was sure McGregor's chances were even worse than the first time.

I'm no big gambler, I bet with friends and other bar patrons watching live--usually $5. Well I lost $45 that night--worst single-night loss ever. I vowed never to count out McGregor again.

All of that said, I think you're right. This boxing bout vs Mayweather is another ridiculous, hopeless mismatch for McGregor. And once again, it seems to me he is sure to lose.

Cerrone is a world beater and has been for a long time. The only problem he has is one many people share, a fear of success. So when he goes on a tear in a division and lines himself up for a potential title shot, he mentally doesn't show up for the fight. You see Cerrone get punch shy and freeze. At the end rounds he'll rally and finally show up to the fight but too late to make up the lost rounds. This pattern strong enough to bet on.
