Actually that sounds pretty illegal. If you were paid for 8 hours of animating, but used those 8 hours to animate something you weren't being paid to animate while cashing the paycheck, you're not only guilty of fraud but I wouldn't be at all surprised if you could easily lose the rights to whatever you actually did animate as the person who paid for your animating would've had the rights to the 'correct' animation.

If the contract for the job was so ridiculously one-sided that the animator was able to legally walk away with payment for little to no work done and also walk away with ownership of the produced product, his boss would have to have been legitimately retarded to give it the OK and if this one douche didn't fuck him over, someone else would've fucked him over very shortly after.

Although I will add that this conclusion is rather hastily put together and Excellia is treated as no more than essentially a minor role/cameo than a proper character.
Then again, I have no problems with devs "abandoning" work to start with a fresh project but with all the knowledge from the development of the previous work. It is sad and painful, but often necessary to mitigate stagnation, stalling and seizing.

I do much the same when playing Factorio. I'll build a basic factory, generate resources, then dissamble the entire thing to create a better designed, upscaled, more efficient version. The cycle then repeats.
The problem lies in within people biting off more than they can chew. I followed the dev of BS rather closely from its pre-alpha days when the art was horrible, to when S-Purple came on scene and started making nice 16bit style art for it. Halfway into this, an artstyle upgrade was introduced, and half the old assets werent used anymore which disappointed and scared me. There was ready going to be over a thousand seperate combinations of fucking scenes needing animation, and to force an upgrade meant months of wasted work.

The dev team really should have designed the game thoroughly before attempting to bruteforce it the way they did. It should have been a simple enough matter to take {[#ofseperateanimals]!}+[#ofseperateanimals] (because you can have each animal fuck their own kind and gender) to put some pause into having so many required art assets.

and that was BS's main problem, there was already a thousand combinations, to be exact, something like 2166 different animations needed to fully fill out the table of compatibility, because you needed to have animations for male+male, male+female, male+futa, male+shota, male+feral (male), male+feral (female), male+loli, male+male breeder, and male+female breeder, and that's JUST for ONE MALE monster, that's not even counting the female version, the futa version, the shota version, the loli version, and both of the feral versions, you can quickly see why this starts to add up.

commissions are actually rather poor money unless you're exceptionally quick for what you're charging or are a furry artist that gets away with charging 500 dollars for a mediocre picture, because most of the time the price and time ratio adds up to minimum wage if you're lucky.

The dev AND the artist are incompetent hacks and a moneygrubbing douches. Both the dev and the artist had enough money from the Patreon to literally work on the game 8 hours a day. And yet they couldn't fucking complete a glorified Harvest Moon with easy as fuck mechanics and several animation loops. Once this collapsed, both the dev and the artist did their best to shit on each other, the dev with bigger success since he owned the official channels of the game.

Any person with at least half a brain wouldn't trust either of them until they redeem themselves in some way. The artist, while reasonably talented, behaved like a complete ass incapable of taking criticism doing things no one asked for, while the dev showcased his incompetence as a coder also doing things no one asked for. So rather than taking chances and involving yourself with either of them again, go sponsor some artist/dev who actually delivers on his promises in specified time frames.

Its actually a rather ingenious solution.

I've been doing some game analysis about Breeding Season. Crunching numbers, going through every piece of material I can get my hands on, even reinstalled Flash CS5 to take a crack at the .fla files.
Shitstorm aside, the game is actually extremely solid. I'll elaborate:

The production line (handled professionally) would have been extremely streamlined and certainly *capable* of eventually finishing off functional completeness within the game.
Angle is almost always a 3/4 view of subject, meaning if done correctly an arm or leg or torso drawing can be "ignored" because its is hidden, saving time. Since every shot is similar, and the same subjects are reused, with minimal customized assets, the same pieces (expressions, hairstyles, limbs) can be recycled for different scenes, also saving time.

Animation is based on papercraft, so individual pieces could take advantage of Flash's bone feature to smoothly tween-rotate or move body parts to a final position. If a piece needed editing to fit a particular exception, this ensures the rest of the model remains intact.
Animation development followed a process of rough charachter design sent around for discussion for implemention including scene sketch, then rough sketch, then main character model, and finally an "exploded" papercraft with all the seperate moving parts.
This was then sent off to the animator, who then prepares the final animation .fla package for implementation into the game.
Simple code is written to to include all possible body colour & facial/head styles, and the game-dev's job was to insert this asset smoothly into the game, write content for it, and ship it.

At least, this was the theory.

Now for NPC's. This is a hairy list to deal with because some, but not all NPC's can be sexed by the player, or even have a sex scene. Worst of all, this list isn't even complete. The archive reveals future content for minigames, guilds/ "houses" (the political term of house, meaning further characters), opening a portal into the monster-realm, etc.
What can be said about the current list of NPC's is that they all need an idling animation, 10% most likely can be sexed by both player genders/have a solo-scene, if the pin-ups are anything to be believed.
88 current NPC's = 88
Plus sexings/solo = Lets round this 100.
So we total essentially 2381 unique, individual animated scenes. This is an accurately rough estimate, and the real number can only be higher.

Nah, the one who did the most shit was H-Bomb. It was his project and he let it loose without a plan. He did pretty much nothing on it beside original idea and work after that there were no progress.
