-ss is the starting point (optional)
-t is the duration (optional)
-i is the input file name (required)
-c:v libvpx is codec used for webm (required)
-crf 23 is quality. 23 is default, lower is higher quality but bigger output file
-b:v 1M is video bit rate use 300K to 2000K (2M). higher number = higher quality and bigger file. 1600K is ok for 1280x720 size
*use either -crf or -b:v, but not both because one cancels out the other. I forget the details right now.
-c:a libvorbis is the audio codec (required) or use -n instead if you want no audio in the output file
-s is the output file dimensions (optional) only needed if you want a different size than the input file.
-end the command with the output file name. Make sure ".webm" is at the end because ffmeg checks that to see which format to convert to.

Google "man ffmpeg" to get details for other commands like concatenation and cropping.

I just use FFmpeg. It's not really all that hard. it's really just memorizing like 5 codes like -ss -to -b:v etc. once you memorize those you just fill in the blanks. the only things you really change are the crf and -b:v which is just bitrate. Yep, that's the one I used to get started. It was a little bit of a pain to get started but nothing as bad as, say, setting up mods for a video game. Once you get it down you're good. Just takes a little practice. I'm still trying to find the sweet spot with -crf and -b:v values but so far they've been turning out pretty decent. Gonna keep messing around with it. Rule of thumb:
File size limit (in MB) * 8192 / Video length (in seconds)
gives you the overall bitrate (vid & audio).

Example:
4 MB Board + supported sound
Video is 2 Min. long
4MB * 8192 / 120 sec ≈ 273k

So when saving space the lowest possible audio bitrate for me is 45k, so around 228k are available for video.

Or for a maximum length file:
4MB * 8192 / 299 sec ≈ 109k
(lowest audio) 45k - Video 64k
But of course this will look like shit, even when only using a 320x270 resolution.

Of course this also depends on the resolution too. The above formula seems to work best for Videos up to 480x320 bigger videos also may need higher bitrates... and will look like crap.

And the formula isn't perfect at all, since it also depends how much "action" is going on. Videos with simple still images my need much lower bitrates and can be much longer without losing much quality.

Usually I'm using this formula first and then I'm fiddling with the bitrates until reaching the limit of the board. So usually my webm's are always around 3.98 to 4 MB. And I'm using 2-pass encoding with FFmpeg aswell and of course scaling the video down to a reasonable size. Short videos can be up do 1280x720, longer (around 4 - 5 min) I scale down to 320x240. If the sound isn't of importance I'm using a audio bitrate of 45k, because this seems the lowest I can go. FFmpeg (compiled on a mac through MacPorts) quits when going below that limit.

I just figured it out. Just download ffmpeg and add it to the system path. After that just open cmd and

ffmpeg -i "D:\Test\01.mp4" -c:v libvpx-vp9 -crf 20 -b:v 0 -c:a libvorbis "D:\Test\01.webm"

-crf means quality I think 20 is okay lower is better if your internet is fast you can use 10. I don't think there is any point to go lower.

I want a GUI that just lets me chooses the video file and output file, then allows me to add the command lines I want.

For example

I want to choose or drag the input 01.mp4 and select the output location for 01.webm.After that I just want to add the commands like -c:v libvpx-vp9 -crf 20 -b:v 0 -c:a libvorbis or extra if I want to add.
It sounds autistic in both ways but its just choosing and typing files to cmd is a pain in the ass for me for some reason and I don't like how complex the program looks. Why do you need the alternate preference shit? What does it do?
Also why can't I just right click to a file and copy for CMD (something like that) and for 01.mp4 it copies "D\Test\01.mp4". I have ADHD and OCD which is probably unrelated its just autism but oh well.

I need help with FFmpeg. Can you splice pieces from one movie together using ffmpeg. theres a scene where theres a naked chick but theres a bunch of other scenes that I want to edit out in between all of her scenes. Can you do that directly in ffmpeg. I tried to do it by specifying start and stop points like -ss 00:14:00.000 -to 00:15:00.000 , then start again with another -ss 00:15:30.000 -to 00:16:00.000 etc. Didn't work. at least not how I did it. maybe I punched in something else wrong. You can shift+right click and "copy as path", or drag and drop the file into the console.
Both will give you the absolute path to the file suitable for the console (i.e. quoted if it has whitespace).

Dunno if there's a way to do it directly, but you can copy those scenes you want into individual files, then join those.

e.g.
ffmpeg -i porn.mp4 -ss 10 -to 20 1.mp4
ffmpeg -i porn.mp4 -ss 30 -to 40 2.mp4
...

make a file containing:
file '1.mp4'
file '2.mp4'
...

ffmpeg -f concat -i list.txt (-c:v libvpx etc etc here) joined.webm

Not the most straightforward, but it works.
