Are you sure that what is sold in stores is the real deal? I looked into it a while ago and found that most brands sold now (in US anyway) aren't the same VOC that was found in poppers when they were first really popular. After finding the name of the good VOC I couldn't find it for sale even on tor markets. Pretty sure the tape polish or whatever is not the stuff you want.

What's currently sold as poppers aren't the original "alkyl nitrite in capsule form" which gave poppers their name. Modern poppers tend to be one of Butyl nitrite, Isobutyl nitrite, Isopropyl nitrite, or Cycloamyl Nitrite. The distillation process for poppers is simple enough that it's possible to do in a moderately-equipped home, but has a very, very tiny margin for error; the more you fuck up, the worse the popper side effects get.

They generally have the same effects as Alkyl Nitrite; vasodiliation, relaxation of smooth muscle groups, trancelike effect, and in some people, inhibition reduction (ie, if you're susceptible, they're little cans of Liquid Fuckslut). Side effects generally include headaches and nausea, and in the case of Isopropyl poppers specifically, can cause degeneration of your optic nerve (unfortunately, Iso poppers are easiest to make and so hold the greatest current market share). Note that the original Alkyl's didn't have these side effects except for a headache if you overdosed; regulation of Alkyl Nitrite to a Scheduled substance caused the rise of all the rest of the popper types which are by far less healthy for you.

While Rush and Jungle Juice have the largest market share, the best poppers these days come out of France. The Sexline series (Red/Blue/Green) are Butyl-types, and while they tend to cause congestion they have effects most similar to the old Alkyl mixtures.

Finally, remember that for like 20 years (after Alkyl's were scheduled), Joe Miller was the owner behind PWD, the company that made almost all the US poppers. IIRC he died, and PWD was shuttered circa 2009, and quality in the market disintegrated; there's absolutely no regulation or oversight. Basically, US poppers are a bunch of companies all making poppers (figuratively) in their bathtubs. US-made poppers are hugely inconsistent, even in batches from the same company. Fair warning.
