It's the First or Second Chechen War, so sometime in the 90s.

Chechen rebels basically took over Chechnya in the First one, and the Russias rolled in to take it back in the Second.

My memory is hazy, and you could probably read up on it on the wikipedia pages for each war, but in one of the conflicts the Russians sent a ton of guys into Grozni, the capital of Chechnya, through the train system. They were surrounded at the train station by Chechen forces and slaughtered. Virtually all of the Russians going into Chechnya in that footage died.

The conversation in the beginning of the webm is between Chechen and Russian tank commanders immediately before the combat started. The guys with radios would often chat it up before stuff started.

1. Manual loader shells are almost always kept behind a secure barrier, less chance of it exploding - Autoloaders feed in one big chain.
2.Autoloaders can only use one type of ammunition. And Trust me, Yo udo not want to be firing SABOT shells at clusters of infantry or vice versa.
3.You are losing 25% of your crew who could otherwise hold a weapon or fix the vehicle should any problems arise. And believe me, Tanks need a crap ton of maintenance, most of the time in Forward Operating Bases out in the middle of the Afghan desert.

It is an objective fact that Russian autoloaders can change ammo types even the fucking t72 can do that.
Autoloaders do not feed in one large chain they work with a carousel system in Russian systems.
Plus having less people while it does mean there are less hands to perform a variety of functions means there are less points of failure in the crew. Having your loader unable to participate in combat means someone from another role must take that position.
But I don't know jack about the t14 meme and the armored shell so I can't comment on that part.

Russian conscripts who trained on the older tanks were taught to idle a lot because the diesel does it more efficiently.l They were constantly idling themselves out of gas, on top of their officers having sold the ERA blocks meant to stop RPG attacks from royally fucking them. Which is exactly what happened. On top of this they didn't always have infantry escort while in columns, and the Chechens they were fighting had a very large contingent of Afghaniki. So they were basically putting poorly trained and criminally ill-equipped conscripts against an assortment of hardened veterans of the Soviet-Afghan war and the Chechen equivalent of the National Guard.

I did a bit of research on the video and found out some interesting stuff. The video is from the first battle of Grozny, during the New Years Eve Battle. Russia was trying to take the capital from Chechen nationals. Russia suffered heavy casualties, with 105 of the 120 tanks in the video destroyed.

The first guy speaking was named Turpal-Ali Atgeriyev, he knew the Russian on the radio from serving with him before the Chechen war. The guy he was talking to was named Colonel Ivan Savin (nicknamed Alik).

Alik and his tanks rolled into a railway station in Grozny and held the position awaiting orders.

Somewhere within that period of time, a Russian communications officer heard the words, "Welcome to Hell," on his headset. Shortly after, Chechen fighters, hiding in the depot buildings, the post office, and the five-story building surrounding the station, opened devastating automatic and anti-tank weapons fire. The surviving Russian soldiers took cover inside the station, which the Chechens soon set ablaze. Colonel Ivan Savin, radioed for help and artillery fire, which never came. Savin died on the street from shrapnel wounds beside his wrecked vehicle.

After the war, Turpal-Ali Atgeriyev was arrested and sentenced to 15 years. In 2002, he mysteriously died in prison from "internal bleeding" which was officially reported to be caused by leukemia, but he was in perfect health before prison. It is speculated he was likely beaten to death by guards.
