Just downloaded illustrator and came up with this from scratch, how did I do?

Why is it crap? I love the colors personally.

Eh looks good enough as is. I mean, I do agree with the reducing opacity of the triangle and probably changing the color to have more of a blue or green tint. White isn't doing it any favors.

I'd even curve the outside angles of the triangle.

Maybe add a lighter blue on top of the smokey layer?

You're going to need to go into the appearance attribute panel (which is not as intuitive as Ps, but oh well suck the dick of adobe). Click fill's arrow to open to show opacity.

You should be able to figure it out from there.
