What's trendy right now? Other than fidget spinners
>>309222
aparently posting in the wrong board has become very popular as of late
>>309378
Graphic designers are supposed to know what is trendy, how tf is it the wrong board?
>>309222
Flat.
>>309378
Wait nvm, I apologize anon, I thought you were referring to this thread but I get it now. My deepest apologies, I love you
>>309438
What is so great about flat design anyways?
Faggotry
>>309440
Its not filled with shitty gradients and un-needed glares.
Flat designs are always trendy, but I honestly think it's time we introduce something new. Do I know what is next? No, but at least we are at the forefront along with fashion designers and photographers and other creative types at starting the future trends.
We've gotta start exploring past the limits of "good design" and just experimenting
rose gold, "millennial" pink, Spotify duotones, pink & blue even though Pantone says those were 2016's "color of the year", La Croix, girls wearing chokers, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, snapchat, comic book movies.
stickers/patches/pins of pineapples, unicorns, swans, flamingos. extremely unintimidating names for rappers (Lil' Yachty, Fetty Wap, Chance The Rapper)
>>309917
>pink & blue even though Pantone says those were 2016's "color of the year"
And you consider that old and dated already?
think about this: neo vapor wave.
preparing for the incoming virtual reality paradigm.
3d abstract geometrical flat design.
kinda like paper-thin (2d) objects placed in a 3d environment
although I'm too stupid to describe it and I don't even know if these examples are the best. Maybe someone has something better.
I'VE GOT IT
H O L O G R A P H I C
SCINTILLATION IS THE SON OF MAN
MOVEMENT OF COLOUR IS OUR NEW GOD
ANIMATION OF LOGOS MUST MAXIMISE THE AMOUNT OF STROBING COLOURS IN THEM OR BE LEFT BEHIND

>>309930
it's more that the "color of the year" for 2016 covers at least 2015-2017. earlier if you take vaporwave A E S T H E T I C into account (vaporwave pink was a bit closer to hot pink or barbie pink, though).
also Pantone jump(s) the gun on these things and pays too much attention to gay Italians instead of music videos and social media "influencers": https://www.pantone.com/press-release-pantone-color-institute-releases-spring-2017-fashion-color-report
>Spring 2017
>September 16, 2016
maybe /tv/'s waifus will be wearing lots of green when they turn legal. maybe Pantone is just a tool and not the be-all end-all of color trends. shrugging emoji goes here. (emojis are still trendy, right? bitches love emojis)
>>309930
Pink & blue is still lightning hot
>>309937
In all seriousness vaporwave was killed when normies started using it.
pink and blue is the new orange and teal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkr_7hpcG-w
throwing in asian text seems to still be a thing carried over from all the vaporwave.
also I feel like im often noticing empty space left for text, like a border on an old movie poster.
>>309964
another recent example of white border for text

kendamas. fucking kendamas. those little cancerous things with the ball thay you have to fit inside of a cup or some shit.
>>309222
Hand drawn type.
>>310197
what?
>>310197
like, the mexican ball in cup game?
is that the new fidget spinner or somethin?
the color yellow, 90s counter culture, ill fitting jeans
>>309964
musicians are always late to trends/first to rip somebody off
see Katy Perry and Neon Demon
>>309222
>fidget spinners
O GOSH I just googled this piece of shit WTF are you serious WHHHHHHYYYYYY......... I kek'd so hard
>>309440
OMO flat designs leave room from manipulation and reproduction so they can later have those elements- else its simple and easy to reproduce- there is no true better thing- just time n energy(out-put)
>>309938
That is over stimulus- its like screaming in someone's ear- but instead it's exploding one's eye
>>310395
>WHHHHHHYYYYYY
youtubers gotta get that ad revenue somehow.
>yfw Youtube Thumbnail becomes the vaporwave revival aesthetic in 20 years
>>310485
>ASMR vines
that's a kind of interesting concept actually. stimulating a positive mental response through endless repetition.
>>309222
Some shit as the last 2 years.
90's nostalgia is pretty "new"
The only new this that is coming up is alot of white space and 30's design
Everyone is posting mainstream "trendy" shit.
only bloke close is >>309937 but doesnt know how to explain it.
>>309949
it's like the worst parts of 90s and 80s blended
>>310512
it looks way better than the 90s or 80s.
There is way more attention to color harmony.
>>310740
>what if we took the iconic saturation of the 80s and made it boring and perfect?
>>310747>>310740
seen this oversatured 3d abstract style a lot lately

I've noticed over the course of a couple years, that brutalism is gaining popularity. Look it up, very interesting stuff. That, and minimalism is still very very popular. But brutalism is definely "trendy" right now. Graphic Design almost follows the evolution of architecture, haven't you noticed?
>>310752
>Graphic Design almost follows the evolution of architecture, haven't you noticed?
you do know that brutalism is a 60 year-old movement, right
>>310753
Lately I've been so psyched on brutalistwebsites.com
>>310478
the jacksfilms one is a joke tho
>>310751
>>310510
>>309937
These peeps were the closest, but still a bit off. I think the best name for what I see as the next "big thing" is Digital Brutalism. Just like brutalist architecture and design was about exposing raw (physical) materials, this one is about the digital process. A continuation and refinement of flat design, low poly graphics, vaporwave aesthetics. Lemme dump some inspo
>implying anyone will even read this anyway
>>310891
>>310838
repping, great site for inspo

Went to my cousin's wedding today and this girl was holding 3 fucking fidget spinners in her hand, using her tongue to spin them. As if I didn't need any more proof that they are autistic.
>>310918
>using her tongue to spin them
that's not autism, that's talent.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUtDwWp17tM
[screams externally]
>>310891
Exactly it.
>>310891
it makes sense.
also could be categorized as maximalism by some.
makes sense that it would go in this direction after minimalism runs its course.
>>309440
at least initially it stripped the shit out of the current interface design trends and quickly and efficiently conveyed information by using primarily color and typography to differentiate elements of the page instead of shit like skeuomorphism and with it gradients.
nowadays, it has become a shell of its former self. stuff like flaticons breaches the minimal style that's usually associated with flat design while still calling itself flat.
>>309222
heteronormative sex
>>309222
Being a faggot, apparently.
Even more Swiss-like design. Headline fonts much larger and bolder. Grotesque typefaces more real and less idealized, no more Helvetica. Open compositions. Layers.
It's pretty popular, but I can't tell if the "Outrun" aesthetic is coming in or fading out
>>311672
it's dead bruh
>>311675
unless Atomic Blonde is a hit.
>>311675
It's dead in that, every designer who wanted to experiment with it, has, and is now seeking a new vision
which is industrial goth core
>>309222
My prediction is system fonts for the web.
>>309222
ironed design.
Mac os is a prime example. Its more Plastic mixed with a frosted glass. In my opinion its the only reason to get mac os
>>310891
>>310875
Ironic shitposting is still shitposting
>>310027
these icons hit me right in the nostalgia
>>309222
I call whatever this new style is vibrant minimalism. THICC fonts. Not shying away from using bold colors. But keeping everything clean and minimal. It's a gradual evolution from Material design.
Also trendy: women empowerment, black power, people of color power, refugees. Dressing black people in pastel clothes. Everything has subtle, and not so subtle, political viewpoints too.
>>312294
>Everything has subtle, and not so subtle, political viewpoints too.
please end this
nice bread
some stuff I'm liking at the moment:
>>312358
(don't know if trendy or not)
>>312359
>>312360
>>311008
This could be from the cover for some "cool" Win95 software released in 1997 that had a 50% chance it wouldn't work on your machine.
>>312444
you got triggered because I said women and refugees are trendy. that's not even anything to do with pol. it's just fact. name a trendy company that doesn't think refugees and women are trendy. I was on topic and you detailed this thread and started crying about whoever is modding /gd/ and then started arguing to this guy who repeats you worship Moloch
>>312451
>>312455
you were here yesterday and you are still baiting for (you)s. I'm convinced you are a troll. I regret replying, but you got my (you)s, don't shove them all up your ass at once faggot.
RIP thread :(
it was a good one
This thread is so great. This was the most natural derailment I've seen in a year I swear. Everything these days is shills and trolls, ironic or otherwise, intentionally trying to slide either a person's train of thought, or a group's communication.
But this thread is something else - it has genuine content contribution according to discussion, an easily dismissed 'heard it a million times' style question that somehow got traction, and then gets derailed by backhanded comments causing a 'fuck you, I dont care' feedback loop.
Utter pottery
>>309222
Flat fidget spinning drumph
>>312557
>>312560
now this is some high-effort funposting. Mind if I use that in my work, as an example of experimentation in creative writing ?
I predict that “neon” colors on black are going to be trendy soon in GD since amoled is now capable of displaying true black
>>312577
PAJEETWARE Wingdongs 10 is already doing it.
>>312589
the person who you called mad previously was just avin a little laugh at your ..spontaneous writing effort.
think of what your way of expression itself conveys.
