Need to create a law firm logo but I dont want to use the overused owl/mace/greek pillar/pen/balance iconography. Give me ideas.

OP, sometimes those symbols that are absolutely endemic to a field are the best choice. Gavels, scales, Lady Justice, etc, might be your best bet. Where you need to shine in scenarioa like that isn't so much in choosing an unused symbol, but in your execution of it. Play with negative space, (for instance a silhouette of Justice where the blindfold is a cutout of whitespace) or perspective, or gestalt imagery.

You aren't going to come up with some new signifier for Law, everything under the sun has been used, so concentrate instead on a unique application of one of these old motifs.
