Im working on a illustration based on Jules Julien work (pic related)
the guy is a graphic designer/illustrator who uses meticulously illustrator (or at least, vectors)
so Im trying to uderstand what he does. he work with black and white layers then he color it. I can see some gradient tool. some parts looks like mesh tool but probably they are not. degrades looks like a blend tool but incredibly well done. the hand made layers are in a very low transparency like 3-7%... and they are a lot.
so guys, do you see something more here? help

his values seem darker than yours, maybe just make a few copies and set them to multiply, it's a trick i learned from c4d called ambient occlusion

What? I don't understand. He's just painting in photoshop. Not very well, too, since he is trying very hard at realism, but ends up with this half-assed styled where everything looks like plastic (which I am quite sure is unintentional).
I don't get it. Is that what you're trying to accomplish?

Im trying to accomplish that "plastic" style. I just have some problems with the skin, since everyone says that the guy uses a lot of vectors, some details looks hard to do only with it. as you say, maybe he is mixing it with photoshop brushes

My guess is he is masking his photoshop paintings in with vectors from illustrator. Let me try.

Now, to handle the skin, you'd need to study more plastic, or something else related to the style he's doing. In the end, it's up to your skill to render the way he does. Use good values. If you have shit values, the surface will look like crap, regardless of what color you chose to have. I made this very quickly, but if I took more time with the rendering, and if I used a photo (like he mostly did), it'd be more of his "style" (which isn't original, lets be honest here).
Just...stop being bad.

thanks for the time anon. I will share my progress if the thread is still alive, shading is not really my thing so I need to work hard with it
