Don't you just love the aggressive, blunt and almost incoherent design of modern gayming hardware? It fits the target audience so well.
>>
>>295002
this is like a prop from a 50s science fiction movie set in 2017
>>
>>295112
/g/ and /v/ are already laughing their asses off, ever since LTT showed that brick.
This thing was purely made to draw people to the ACER booth at CES.
>>
post some good stuff
>>
>>295002
gross
>>
>>295002
>>295112
i kinda like it, apart from that weird shiny triangle thing over the keyboard.

could anybody point me at the specific issues with this particular design?
>>
>>295287
unnecessary complication
>>
>>295287
There's no subtlety to it. It just screams 'gamer' with it's unnecessary angles at every turn and huge vents. It's also fat, looks heavy and unportable.

I don't see how anybody over 15 would enjoy that design for more than a few seconds before getting sick of it. You might aswell paint it red and add LED strips to it.
>>
>>295275
It's looking at me funny. Next.

valid in this case. not the worst offender, anyway.
>>295295
you don't know shit. a "gaming laptop" is already a thing. the idea is just design a beautiful one.
>>
>>295295
You know, my father is retired but he still is a serious gamer, he's on his second alien gamer laptop, the 18" is a pain to move around but it allows him to play in his lazyboy.
He'd dig this. Big screen (his eyes aren't getting better), looks like a mechanical keyboard which can be a plus for some (not him nor me though), heavy-duty ventilaton, it's ugly but it's made to play hard.
And the extreme and angular look still seems to be what gamers buy, so it should be ok in its niche
>>

As a former line cook, I wouldn't touch that. That handle is made for creating blisters.

Same with this shit. You're cooking, not pretending to be Raiden from MGS.

Fucking hell, OP

Those knives are not for prep work, line cook.
>>
http://www.design-is-fine.org/ is a really cool blog about design in general, industrial and graphic.
>>
>>295797
What are they for then? Because the only practical purpose they have is display.

Never understood why all industrial designer are so in love with Rams. For me it just looks cold, depressing and boring.
>>
>>296324
idk about herman miller. i have one of their office chairs but theres nothing amazing about the design apart from the ergonomics
>>
File: PD_5667_MAIN.jpg (1B, 486x500px)
PD_5667_MAIN.jpg
1B, 486x500px
Fucking thousands of dólares for a chair. And people wonder why nobody takes designer seriously.
>>
>>296325

What's amazing about them - beyond ergos - is that they easily last 10-15 years with hardly any maintenance. The average $150 office chair is sitting next to a dumpster after 3 years.
>>
it's set with the outer ring
>>
>>
>>296332
What are you talking about? The Eames lounge chair is a fucking masterpiece, everybody takes it seriously. The thousands of dollars are justified for the value you get from it. A beautiful, long-lasting, ergonomic, hand-crafted, functional piece of art
>>
>>296827
A functional stack of money
>>
>>296324
>Never understood why all industrial designer are so in love with Rams. For me it just looks cold, depressing and boring.
extremely well proportioned, structured. it's like a well-designed grid based document, but as a product
>>
>>296827
Functional if you're a literal dwarf yeah. I tried one at my shrink office and if you are over 6'0 this shit feels uncomfortable as hell.
>>
>>297081
lol there is some inbetween ground between literal dwarf and 6'0 mate, you're above average height. At 5'10, shit feels magnificent
>>
>>295287

As ridiculous as that looks, I have a soft spot for bulky hardware. I would love if someone made a bulky laptop like old ones, without all that stupid shit that one has tacked on it.

Sharp X68000 released in Japan 1987, might be one of the sexiest computers ever designed
>>
I cannot imagine a more beautiful thing.

The subtle elegance and refined design of a thinkpad is unparalleled in the laptop world. It's truly in a class of it's own.
>>
NeXTStation
>>
>>295002
Maybe would make a little sense if they moved the keyboard up (no wrist rests is how you get carpal tunnel).

I guess the touchpad is on the right so you can be a tru laptop gaymur and use the touchpad like a normal mouse or something... But it also looks like it comes off to be a very painful, edged mouse. If it does, props to them for coming up with something slightly interesting to market their product on but that should have been the emphasis on the design, not a retarded mirror triangle and overly-poly design

It was designed that way.

i wish
ever since CRTs were obsoleted, computers have lost depth. No designer wants to invest in the z axis because everything not .1mm thin is seen as bulky. Maybe someone is daring enough to bring it back though.
>>
>>299603
no i think now the direction is to go with the thinness. if you look at some products like the tv designed by the bourroullec brothers, the form is more akin to a screen, room divider, or framed painting.
>>
>>295287
What is that weird, shiny triangle all about?
>>
>>299178
I heard it has the radar signature of a butter knife.

I take both of these products and place them in a box. I wave my hand above them and ABRAKADABRA! They are now combined into a new product!
>>
>>299541
lol Gotcha. All the yuppies with enough money for the anime knife, but just poor enough to have to cook for themselves. Big market share there, tex. I bet they sell dozens. Literally dozens.

And what you're talking about is called "marketing", babydick. Where you're trying to single out a specific demographic to market a product to. "Design", which you're peripherally aware of, and "Good Design", which you have clearly only accidentally crossed paths with and ignored while bumblefucking your way through life, have the common aim of functionality (func·tion·al·i·ty, "fəNG(k)SHəˈnalədē"). The difference between What makes "Design" into "Good Design" is if the design achieves the goal of functionality. Now "Bad Design" is design in which functionality is eschewed for aesthetics, which is exactly what this masturbatory design has done. This would be the drop shadow of kitchen knives. (PROTIP: Drop shadows are typically regarded as one of those "maturbatory" design elements, wherein their inclusion is usually not integral to and sometimes even detrimental to the pursuit of functionality.)

When you grow up, you may one day be able to tell good design from bad design. And maybe even the difference between design and marketing.
