anyone may explain how this effect is achieved? is it done in illustrator or a 3d program?
>>290638
In cinema it would be pretty easy. Just sweeping a spline and playing around with the luminece channel with some subsurface scattering.
In illustrator id have a look at the blend tool.
>>290638
it can be done in both
if i remember correct illustrator has a 3D module bult in.
>>290638
3d module in illustrator isn't the way. You should use the blend tool + gradient mesh. But why do something in 2 hours tweaking around when you can achieve a better result in 10 mins with a 3d software?
Btw that could be useful
design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/quick-tip-how-to-tame-the-gradient-mesh--vector-3697
>>290638
its a 3d form with a Negative effect
>>290638
i've wondered about these in the past... i got a decent result creating an art brush from a gradient, and then applying it to a path... but you don't have much control.
as the other said 3d is probably the best way to go.
What about these rings? How were they made?
>>291123
A 3d program.
If you look closely at the rings, there's hard edges where the polygons are.
The circle isn't completely smooth as it would be if you just used a blend tool, brush, or even the 3d thing in Illustrator.
>>291123
That Baugasm artist used Cenima 4d to do the rings
>>291123
you could do them on illustrator with 3d revolve and gradient mesh but like the other anons said it was prob madein c4d (you might want to learn about multi-pass and alpha channels for making posters with 3d renders)

Chae is a motherfucker. I hate how talented he is.
He used the blend tool, of course, like most other works in this style. If you can find a high res pic, you'll see it's not actually yellow lines, but millions of yellow circles being repeated to form lines.
I suspect he did the following in illustrator
1. set up a purple background
2. Outlined the kanji(?) characters with yellow dots.
3. Drew a "noodle" line for each dot. Literally just black line at this point. Made sure it flowed nicely until it reached the bottom of the poster, and rose on the right side. (Otherwise, he filled the empty spaces with more "noodle lines" afterwards)
4. Outside the poster, made a single blend of two yellow dots
5. For each "noodle" line, replaced spine with blended dots, and carefully managed dot spacing to achieve the almost uniform line effect.
6. Cleaned up like a motherfucker, made the lines spiral between each other, flow nicely, etc.
7. "filled" the spaces between the noodles with red (probably a giant red shape in layer below.
8. Drew chopstick, text, etc, won another award.

>>296455
This is exactly how I did it except the dots don't "follow" each other (thus creating a line) when I blend between the two objects
How can I achieve than grainy effect?
how do i create this vhs/tv effect?

Typical gradients in Illustrator but with the Grain -> Stipple effect applied to its Fill over contents.
NOTICE: the newest CC release has a possible memory leak and trying effect this out will freeze your machine or cause immense lag. CC2015 handles everything no problem though.
The general idea here is to use a gradient where black is the most stippled and white is no stipples.
>>297394
adding to this, i used a black -> white gradient, but it could very well be anything else.
if you're using After Effects, you can achieve similar results with the Dancing Dissolve blend mode with blur or median filters or just vanilla DD alone. Notice that Dancing Dissolve blend from opaque to transparent instead of black to white

how???
hey yall how is this made?
>>297530
How do you get them outlines in yellow famalamaol
>>297538
>>297490
Even if you had 9001 different brushes, you would still only have only 9001 steps of unique intensity.
Gradient intensities are multi-step and infinite and scale infinitely too.
Don't get me wrong, both have their ups and downs but the effect used is clearly the stipple filter, plus using your method will lead to a clipping mask hell.

How do you do the donut/diamond shapes?
>>299763
for the diamond, you just make a diamond shape and revolve it in illustrator. same goes for any interesting shapes you want to make. for the donut effect, you make a circle and then there should be an option where you increase the size or something of the distance of the shape from the revolve point in the 3d settings. Just tweak stuff and you'll figure it all out in a few minutes.
