I was considering finally putting up my own website as well, but I can't decide between my real name or inventing a brand/company name for myself to hide behind it. Does it look more professional if you use your real name?

Invent a brand or 2. If successful, sell them off, if not, just as design examples. Even if you use your own name, it's always smart to have 1-2 side brands.
