Trying again at the logo redesign.

Figured I'd try to think about what I do and how I can convey that, instead of relying on arbitrary symbols that only some people would get.

I make a lot of 80s influenced works, so I tried to nod to that style of design, but keeping a modern tone.
Well guys, is it better than the other 8 or so versions I've posted?
>>
>>289676
I meant to ask, which version do you prefer?
Stroked triangle or no?

Cool name, and I think a geometric sans aligns with it well. But...

1. Why is it asymmetrical?
2. What are those lines under the name supposed to imply?
3. There isn't enough contrast between the word 'axiom' and 'DESIGN'.
>>
>>289689
1. Asymmetric because when I tried symmetrical, things didn't quite balance in the center as far as the text was concerned. It always seemed slightly off, so I figured to just work with it rather than fight it.

2. The lines are supposed to "kinda" represent a small perspective. Kind of like what you'd see in 80s style art. It also goes back to the lines in those abstract suns.

3. I absolutley agree about the contrast, I thought the capitals would emphasise it more but you're right.
>>
>>289676
do this
use an inverted equilateral triangle
add tree more small lines at the top so it looks like the horizon
try with the name in capital letters
the "design" word should be smaller with tons of kerning/spacing between each letter
maybe use black and white till the shape seems right>>289678

Like this?

I think it still feels balanced wrong with the type. Even when I try to do optical center.
Like it skews the triangle and makes the bottom point to the right slightly.

Honestly I kind of like the asymmetrical version. It's kind of a running gag within my circle of friends that everything I do is symmetrical because of my OCD, so I thought an asymmetrical design might be a fresh change.
I also liked the lowercase juxtaposed with the uppercase as well.

yeah of course this has been done millions of times and "vaporwave is dead". but that's not the point here. I'm looking for critique, trying to get better, and learning to do other things.
>>
>>289709
It doesn't look 'future retro'. It looks 'future future'. You've understood well SOME parts of vaporwave. but really the critical element of age is missing here. Everything looks too clean and distinct, like an AI attempted vaporwave.

Also, it's FUCKING VAPORWAVE STOP FOR CHRISTS SAKE THERE'S NO VALUE IN IT
>>
>>289709

I wish we could keep this stuff in it's own thread, it's closer to art than visual communication, and frankly it's trashy garbage.
>>
This is a sister piece to >>289528

I have some tweaking to do to cut it correctly. But same idea as the last one - State themed and designed for dimensional V-carving.
>>
>>289676

Bru I love ya, but I'm going to fire off.

None of this is playing well off the other elements.
Your font is thinner than the supporting and bordering visual elements - this is often fatal.

This logo doesn't look professional enough for someone branding themselves to sell logos, sorry. D:
>>
>>289676
>>289775

Also kerning mofo - the O and M are like outer rim planets.
>>
>>289776
I don't sell logos though.
I do artwork and illustration.

I'm honestly at my wits end for all this desu.
I don't know why it's so hard for me to do branding for myself.
I tried to take the advice some anons gave me the last time and try to have some kind of style about it.

I'm trying. I really am. This one seemed to fit for me though, and I really want to find a way to make it work.

Does this at least help?
>>
>>289781

Dude we are kindred spirits - your "freelance" branding development will always be the absolutely most challenging, and the logos will almost always feel uninspired.

But there is a rational behind this - when you sell design you are literally selling abstract concepts.. So of course it's easier to brand "Lion Arc Welding" - because it's all literal and contextual.

So my advice is as follows - don't think your logo development will allocate the same time demands as a clients, yours will take literally (1<~0

>>289782
No doubt.
I'm learning that the hard way.
I feel like establishing a brand isn't as poignant as establishing a connection with clients and putting out good work. But having some kind of strong image to associate with my work would definitely help.

At the very least I just want to get something out there. Right now I just want some kind of graphic to work as a profile photo. Instagram deleted my previous one for some reason, I need something to go there. I just didn't have the heart to put the old one there.
Pic related was the old one. It's barely a logo. The similarities with the "new" one was coincidental, but still.

>>289783

Works for me.
>>
>>289784

You are dialed in, I know you don't want to start over - and you really don't have to. In the end being able to attract clients is more important than discipline specific skill sets. So having a "ok" or "regular" logo is perfectly fine, unless you specialize in selling logos.
>>
>>289678

It is just a random sequence of rectangles that appear to be text. I wanted the viewer to look at it and wonder what it meant. No differently if an alien race was to observe voyager's golden record.

> clash with the cartooning and don't seem to relate to the story.

It serves as contrast. The face is very circular and organic while the sequence of rectangles are rigid and unnatural.

That said, I appreciate your feedback and curiosity.

This one is D.O.A.

This is a brand mark concept for a dimensional sign carving business. The logo its self will be typographic.

No yelling about it being too busy - I know exactly how where and when this kind of brand mark would be used, and it's specifically built for carving.

This mark has a lot of process advantages and I can conceive of it working very well in 2.5D.

The business name is "Chimera" Subheader "custom sign carving", so obviously it's a "coat of arms" style Chimera - This is the direction I took because the medieval connotations to sign carving and handcrafts, or artisan crafts. Also it will carve really nice, If I have my way the hand lettered typography will be thematic and appropriate.

ANYWAY it's just a concept, and also these fucking "coat of arms" style animals are fucking hard as fuck to draw, or is it me?

only 2 and 4 actually look like QC. 1 and 3 look like CQ, 5 and 6 look like a weird Q. 1/2/3/4 look like a generic 'corporate logo generator' produced them. 5/6 look very geometric.

None of these logos make me feel anything in particular. I have no notion of what the organisation stands for, what sector it is, what their values are, nothing.

Can you not find a way to redesign it with a more Arabic design feel? Plenty of resources out there on Arabic designs you can work from.

>>290657
If you meant the line going through both parts of the text, have you experimented with the length of it. I feel like it doesn't need to go that far and looks quite off with it extending past the R and D on the left. I'd personally opt for something half the length to 3/4 at the most.
>>
>>290665
Thank you will experiment with that line then, what about the rest? Anything worth mencioning?

Do people put their company names on their logo? Also should i prepare business cards logo in indesign or illustrator? I've heard printing in photoshop file is terrible
>>
>>290715

>do people put their company names on their logo?

unless its an already established company that can be recognized by icon alone like mcdonalds then yes.

>also should I prepare business cards logo in indesign or illustrator?

use indesign for layout design but create the graphics for it in illustrator. dont make logos in photoshop. there are exceptions i suppose if you dont need the logo to be scalable or if you want the logo to have raster effects for whatever reason but more often than not it wont be the case.

my advice is don't take shortcuts just to avoid having to learn something new. ive seen a lot of people on here say they don't need to know indesign and to me that just screams inexperience and ignorance. and im sure somebody is going to get defensive reading this reply but so be it.

The three animals in the shield...
I can see the goat easily. That's not a problem. But at a glance, the cow/dog thing is difficult to make out, and the snake looks like a snout for the cow. Maybe if you edited the mouth of the middle animal a bit so it doesn't look like it merges into the snake it'd flow a bit better. Basically, I know what you're going for because I've see the other drafts, but a consumer wouldn't.
>>
>>290748
That's disappointing to hear, but thanks for the heads up regardless.
>>

I really like your logo and I think it's the coolest one in this thread, but, as he said, I didn't understand the snake head. I just tought that it was part of the dog and that it was a mythical creature with a weird nose and I tought it was cool.

So yeah just edit that and you'll get possibly one of the coolest logos I've ever seen
>>
>>290668
Only real thing that personally stands out to me is the choice of type used for Renovations feels too thin and kinda makes it feel a bit unbalanced. Obviously don't go straight to Bold or Black as that would just result in the same issue but the opposite way around.

Maybe even just switch around the lines, so the distributors part is thinner while Renovations is a bit more bolder. I feel the boldness of the Distributors part gives it a slightly higher importance even while it's much smaller in size.

I think it's pretty much 'there' though.

I think your gestalt is good.

Here is the details. So it's flat and broad but the trees are too thin comparatively and it spoils the style.

Your colors show promise, but maybe play with them? They feel either 1 - desaturated 2- lacking contrast 3 - not varied enough 4 - who fuckin knows

>Thicker trees? I'll try it later

Is not the right attitude. That part of the graphic isn't compatible with broader more dominant elements. Feel free to ignore me, but you will only damage yourself until you come to terms with this. Most designers are broken by this, and never become professionals, now is your time to show you can rise above the masses and actually get paid to do this.
>>
>>290890
It's a school project so no payment, but i see what you mean. The "it's good enough but not great" attitude?

Hw would you do them?
>>
>>290892

I really hate armchair critiquing in the sense of giving specific direction. I say that because I've never seen that kind of critique be effective when compared to direct trial & error traditional critique. So I will not tell you directly what to do different - that would make you the hammer, rather than the carpenter.

But I would examine the relationship and balance between your objects and outlines, and I would cross reference other comparative successful pieces with my own spacial reasoning and concoct a more professional balance after many, many revisions.
>>
>>290893

Brain fart, read outlines as the green for the brush or leaves or whatever.
>>
>>290883

Yeah it's horrifying.

I just started fucking with this and I can already feel how cancerous it is. I lack the proper articulation, but this speculative process rewards me for making shovelware garbage.

Hilariously it probably won't even reward me, only encouraging me further to produce hyperbolically vapid and shovelware steaming garbage.

99designs is filled with yes men and brown skinned idiots pumping Photoshop garbage, you'd be lucky to market a reasonably well designed logo that attracted attention, because it's a paradox. This is my 6 hour experience.

I assume this is the sort of aesthetic you're going for. The issue with your version is that it's disproportionate - take a look at how big they make the heads in the traditional Swedish and Mongolian flags, while your heads are far too small in comparison, especially with the body's thickness.

1) the 4 being such a heavy weight throws the balance off topward and rightward
2) everything other than the 4 is hard to read

Fortunately, that's my aesthetic so I rather like it. The texture on it is nice.

So, I'm doing a mockup fragrance ad as a little side project. For fun.

The illustration I'll get feedback on later (though if you wanna chime in, I'd appreciate it) but what I'm mostly curious is the 'ad' segment of the piece. How's the type? The layout? I feel like the upper right corner is neglected to shit.

Could use some thoughts!

My eyes just comb over the picture cause of the tits and I certainly won't remember the brand name cause of the weak type. I understand the smooth, curved motif you are hammering home, but it really fails to be memorable and is kind of boring. I think you either have to commit fully to the motif or drop it for something more sharp/bold.

Also her face is WAY too anime -- I'm assuming that's not your target market.

I have no suggestions. I apologize.

Would you believe I actually toned that down?

Also, thanks for the note.

the type is not bad but not good either did you made something on the typee or the ornaments are from the font? also the circle line on "a" for the aether logo doesn't look good and the type is a way too inclined imho

This might seem super amateur but if you look up MSDS and start to put it together.... Everything is still relative, we're all just subjects of poorly facsimiled processes.

The logo is homage to a material safety data sheet, these guys develop safety software for the oilfield.

I use brush tool to mask it since that's the way I've been always know, but when you mention it now I realize there are better ways such as using shapes to mask it

I drew Sasami chan and wanted to get critiques. I used ink, prismacolor pencils and photoshop. I used to have copics but sold them and would have used them for this instead.

I want to ask what people think of it. I have other illustrations but I'm saving them for later because I don't think it'd be wise to post them on here.

The middle isnt reallt anything per se. I was just trying to emulate the feeling of being in a car crash with this cover. Now it kind of reminds me of being under water.
