It is good, can be a bit hard to digest in some places but it's still regarded as basically THE book when it comes to grids in graphic design.

They came out with a 2015 edition so you can get it relatively cheap now. I say relatively because its no longer 300gbp

Condensed learning path

Just read up on Bauhaus and 60s branding/advertising, fuck researching cave paintings and Ancient Roman tablets

>Grid

Read The Vignelli Canon

>Type

Read Thinking With Type and Stop Stealing Sheep
Practice type pairing Sans/Serif fonts and memorise 20-30 classic, well used typefaces

>Color Theory

Just buy a damn color wheel and use your instincts

Then just consume as many Adobe tutorials as you can on Lynda etc. Work on actual projects, even if they don't mean shit. You will learn 100x more doing your own thing than constantly reading books or following Youtube videos

Give it a couple of years of solid work and you are on your way to becoming a Graphic Designer.
