Hello /gd/, I'm a designer for a new (and not yet announced) free and open source project. We've finally hit my favorite part: creating a brand new desktop environment, which for the sake of convinced we refer to as "L". I can't spill the beans, but this is going to satisfy open source and free software people simultaneously, and we're building this for real linux users, not people who want an OS X clone.
What do you love/hate about your current DE? What do you actually WANT to see in a DE? And just as importantly, what do you hate that other DEs keep pushing? Thanks for the time, we'll keep in touch
>>
We don't use any kind of Linux distribution here because we are cucked hard and strong by evil corporations into using proprietary software for designing.

I don't know if OP's given up on the thread, but I use GNOME and here's what I love:
>gnome shell extensions that visually integrate into the environment, https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/30/music-integration/ is one of my favorites

hate:
>shitty css that breaks down every other minor version
>stuck to the same basic template, can't rice for shit outside of altering some colors and sizes
>>tfw no GNOME on unixporn

at this point I only use it for compatibility

As a dude who knows nothing about graphic designado and a tiny bit about linux, does muy opinion matter? Should i bother submitting input at al? I mean you would definitely understand the laymans point of view from my comment

Interesting. I use Gnome 3 daily and apart from >muh tablet ui I don't have any issues.
Apart from it being written in JS and being slow as balls sometimes, holy shit who thought that was a good idea.

Though when I say "muh tablet ui", I need to clarify that I like the launcher screen, because at least it's better than that Windows abortion. I don't really like menus, prefer to press a key and type.
Maybe a console interpreter/app launcher combo?

wrong

i like gnome 3 a lot because of the way the dock works ive always liked the way the osx dock works however i do enjoy having annother seperate panel at the top like osx but it also shows what windows you have open (similar to cinnamon) i like being able to show all your installed programs with clicking a menu like in the ubuntu de or gnome 3.

Dash2dock is goat.

Regarding gnome, their idiocy and knowing better than the user is what'll kill them. For instance, nautilus (gnome-files) sucks. Type to search instead of jumping through files? Retarded. Not to mention copying files takes forever, which they blame on kernel bugs. Wonder how other file managers manage not to take a decade to copy 500 files.

Tell us what the project is, asshole.

Read his post, asshole.

Sometimes I like a little visual candy, dmenu lacks that.
Though newest lightdm broke i3 for me, so no dmenu for me for the foreseeable future.

Another thing I like about gnome, or rather gnome-files is that files take equal amount of space.
thunar, for instance, attempts to show the full filename under the file, resulting in uneven rows.

Can it have native tiling?
