Is making vaporwave images as simple as it appears?

i.e. filter things pink and teal, throw in some outmoded technology too.

i'm not being flippant. i can never tell if everyone's infinitely more talented than me and has a clearer idea of what they're doing, or if it's really as simple as it appears

needs more glitch.
Change an image's extension to .raw, open the image in a hex editor, skip past the headers (they look like html/XML code), and insert some bullshit (write your thoughts on the day, or smth). Doing it at different parts of the file will change the glitch's start higher or lower. IIRC the top of the file is the bottom of the image.
If you don't skip the headers, the image will be unopenably-corrupted. Also there is sometimes two sets of headers separated by a big area of garbled text, so watch out for that. Although, the headers are where the exif data is saved, so you can mess with that if you find any.
