In this ITT we modernize old looking logos.
Horrible color choice. Try a higher contrast, right now it looks like it was done in ms:paint. Also, all you did was trace it, try adding something new to the table.
Brighter colors wouldn't hurt.
>>244767
Take off the gradients and make it symetrical. Both of them look horrible because of the asymmetric carrot and gradients.

>durrr i make modern am i artist yet?
>>244767
>>244774
Both of these are pretty bad compared to the original.
Think more about the program itself and how the logo/icon fits with it.
FL studio (op pic, just in case anyone didn't know already) is a music production program.
The original icon fits with the program's UI theme, and tries to look sleek and modern to suggest a powerful program.
Your flat designs don't suggest that, it looks more like a kiddie rabbit game or something similar.
Think more outside the box with it, the fruit itself is an important part of the identity of the program, but maybe you can incorporate it into a different design entirely rather than just the circle.
Just some thoughts, to help out.
>>244837

>>244857
I still prefer the old logo, as gaudy as it is.
>>244783
Whenever someone says this I want to see their portfolio, because I imagine it's full of the worst gradients and lens flares and awful shit you'd ever see. Like they're stuck in whatever trends were popular when they started designing and never learned actual principals of visual communication.
>FLAT DESIGN IS LAZY
Okay, dumbasses.
THAT SAID I have heard good arguments against fully flat design. And I do agree that falling into the trap of anything that's a trend is a stupid idea that will look very dated soon. But that first carrot icon looked like an abomination of 2005's internet.
Let me be clear, I'm not accusing you of being a bad designer, and I hope it doesn't come off that way. That's just what I think of whenever I see those comments with no elaboration to support them.
You sound silly.
>>244837

I had no clue, my bad. I haven't used it since Fl 10.
I still think that my point stands, even if it has a flat style. There needs to something more to the logos OP posted, the original design doesnt transfer to a flat design very well.
Thanks for the heads up about the new UI. That top area with the buttons looks super busy compared to how it used to look.

It's not 'flat design' that's the issue. Good flat design is harder to execute than all that glossy web-2.0 "4D" gradients everywhere bullshit that was rightly consigned to 2008.
The issue I have with material design is that it's another company's identity. Using it looks wholly unoriginal and has more than just a bit of a whiff of amateur about it, especially since it's not a great look to start off with.
>>245055

This.
Material design is an entire language made for interactive sites and apps.
It encompasses interactivity, animation and positioning as WELL as aesthetics. It's designed around Google products and their functionality, as well as an attempt to create a standardized UI for android applications.
Why anyone would use it for their brochure site or own companies webapp is beyond me, its another companies identity.
That said there are some really good points raised in the style guide, but yeah 'flat design' and 'material design' are far from interchangable and shouldnt be treated as such.

and i tell you straight up fruity loops has a superior mixer /routing /bussing system than protools.
ABLETON DOESN'T EVEN HAVE DISCREET BUSSING
the arrangement mode uses fixed 'channels' instead of flexible lanes which channels may send commands to, in ableton... wtf? do i REALLY want to have my arrangment view pretending to be a mixer while a cookie cutter 'clip' view does the exact same thing but worse? its pretty much like ableton has a sequencer view with integrated - and weak - mixer. where fruity loops actually has a legit arrranging window with a seperate, powerful mixer. the thing is, if you want to - you can still used FL studios arranger the same way as ableton, but not vice versa.
furthermore, the MIDI and internal/external routing capabilities of FL studio are unmatched... period. max for live doesn't come close. try implementing complicated multi channel layered instruments with expressive midi integration with max. you can't. max is shit.
FL studio on the other hand makes it a simple matter of drag and drop devices, or open a function scripting window, to create virtually ANYTHING you could possibly want. A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G. you could theoretically program DOOM inside of FL studio. and yet, the simple kinds of things a person might want to do, like, assign an encoder to move a randomized 1 or 2 steps up a defined scale with the rate of change mapping to a filter envelope, for example - which could create some very cool background jazzy sounding leads - can be done with about 15 minutes of reading the documentation, IF you had no idea whatsoever of what you were doing, and if you do, it takes 2-3 minutes.
that would take an hour in max. and FL studio does it NATIVE.
better, more flexible browser system in FL studio. better, more powerful sampler.
FL studio is hands down the most powerful digital audio workstation in terms of the tricks you can make it do. maybe Sequoya is an exception but i never used it.

oh and by the fucking way, FUCK recording actual audio into ableton. ableton is ok for downsampling and resampling, but FL studio ALSO walks away with live recording, if compared to ableton. so much faster and easier, and honestly, if you don't love Edison, its because you don't know how to use it. obviously neither FL studio or ableton are the best choice for any significant kind of tracking. arguably software itself is not the right choice for serious tracking.
plus fruity loops is also a VST instrument :^)
plus fruity loops has ACTUAL AUTOMATION CURVES and many kinds, as well.
when i'm *having fun*, i route ableton into protools, with fruity loops as a VST in protools. i use my ableton push to make the basic elements and perform single, simple parts, while i do more creative effects and sounds in FL studio, and record and produce into protools as audio.
Here's a real fixer-upper.

Flat is Ableton, You could actually make it better if you made it more in the style of the Logic or Garageband style icon.
