Machine learning is a wide category of different techniques, like neural networks, gradient descent techniques, and others.
They're grouped together because they share the basic concept of having a "model" (a series of parameters) to "learn" (optimize those parameters against an error function).

Deep learning is a specific technique in which the algorithm is designed to learn not only how to classify the input based on some pre-extracted feature, but must discover and extract said features by itself.
